Per two sources, the @wta was going to use the Cancun event to announce that Saudi Arabia would host the 2024-26 WTA Finals. Interesting to see if an announcement still gets made, given current geopolitical state of play....

Re: 2023 WTA YEC
There isn't yet a board on the Elite trophy so.
That tournament is a travesty - should be closed .someone who didn't qualify for the YEC could potentially win more points than someone who did..the Elite winner gets 800 points, a round robin loser at YEC gets 0. How is that fair? Of course, I don't think much of the rankings anyway but those who do, should protest!

Re: 2023 WTA YEC
thanks for the update.. but why should the Elite trophy winner get even a point more than 125? if anything, it should be LESS than 125!skatingfan wrote: ↑Tue Oct 17, 2023 4:06 amLosing a match in round robin gets 125 points - winning gets 250 points.ashkor87 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 17, 2023 12:45 am There isn't yet a board on the Elite trophy so.

Re: 2023 WTA YEC
Why? Which 125 tournament can guarantee nothing but top 20 players (or top 25)?ashkor87 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 17, 2023 11:48 amthanks for the update.. but why should the Elite trophy winner get even a point more than 125? if anything, it should be LESS than 125!skatingfan wrote: ↑Tue Oct 17, 2023 4:06 am ...
Losing a match in round robin gets 125 points - winning gets 250 points.
It is not an easy field; It certainly has a much deeper field than, for example, Bogota.

Re: 2023 WTA YEC
Because, by definition, the loser of the first round at YEC has performed better than everyone in the Elite field..those players didn't qualify for the YEC, which is why they are in the Elite field. Let them make money, call it an exho but why give them points?!

Re: 2023 WTA YEC
So, who do you think will win this? Motivation is a big part of this drama, I feel..Swiatek and Sabalenka have the most, I would think...no idea what the court will be like, but we know altitude is not a factor, as it was last year..

Re: 2023 WTA YEC
WTA Finals facilities in Cancún are not yet ready
The facilities for the WTA Finals, a million-dollar tournament with the best eight of the year, are not yet ready, five days before the start of the event, which takes place on Sunday. The complaint was made by Polish journalist Mateusz Wasiewski.
The stands were not close to being ready during filming and several places still had little structure. This will be the first time that the venue hosts the event with the best eight in the world.
Tomasz Wiktorowski, Iga Swiatek's coach, told the "Ladies and Aces" program: “The most important thing is that the surface is ready for use by Thursday. Then, perhaps not calmly, we will be able to train. My guess is it will all be over by Saturday night.”

Re: 2023 WTA YEC
I'm sorry but this situation is an insult to the women who worked hard all season to make the Final 8. There are courts in Guadalajara. Monterrey. Acapulco is out due to the horrific storm that just hit that area. There was Ostrava!! There was Prague. Shanghai. This is totally ridiculous.
