W probably means much more to him than the USO so no, I don't expect him to play the USO..would be great if he did, but...

I guess Shelton shouldn't feel bad about losing to Ruud, ever, but he could have won this match and needs to start converting more of these opportunities. The ATP's headline is "Ruud outserves Shelton" and that should never happen. The story is that Shelton didn't earn a single break point - 6-7, 6-4, 6-4.

He made some silly decisions and missed too much. The game and the body is there. Hopefully he will continue to grow. I think he's exciting to watch, so explosive, and is generally a positive guy and good for the game.

We keep forgetting that Ruud is a USO finalist, and a Masters finalist. Sure, he is better on clay, but it is not as if he can't play on hards.

I wasn't even really factoring that in. I forget Ruud was once considered a clay-court specialist. But Shelton has to be able to generate break points against anyone if he wants to win matches. Not a single break point in two and a half hours. That was the problem. No shame in losing to Ruud, but Shelton should have given himself more looks. He was playing well.

FWIW, Ruud's 2022 USO draw was: Edmund, Van Rijthoven, Tommy Paul (7-6, 6-7, 7-6, 5-7, 6-0), Moutet, Berrettini, Khachanov. Berrettini isn't a slouch, but that's not a bad draw. I think he has even acknowledged that he had a good draw.

Medvedev lost... I have a feeling he'll have a bad IW/Miami and will fall far behind the top 3 in the rankings.

He screamed something at a line judge. It wasn't the worst behavior, although i don't know what he said, but it ws over the line. He has to control his temper. It's part of being a professional. Bublik came over and said, "I'm okay to continue," I guess meaning he didn't want Rublev defaulted for that (which is irrelevant). They must be friendly.

A Russian-speaking official stated that, while screaming in the linesman's face, Rublev called the linesman, in Russian, a f-ing moron. I think supposedly Rublev stated that he had been speaking in English? I mean, LOL, whatever. Rublev has been, indeed a f-ing moron lunatic on the court for far too long. Enough already with the tantrums. Anger management time-out.

Nevertheless- I blame ponchi. :gorgeous:
