I was awake and saw a lot of Raducanu vs Carlé, a match I went into thinking Raducanu would win if not in straight sets but in three. Instead I saw Raducanu making a ton of errors, exhibiting poor court sense, and generally wilting before a determined Maria Lourdes Carlé of Argentina who won in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. Raducanu also had kinesio on I think her right calf.

Wonder if it is a combination of altitude making it hard to control balls and the fact that Carle, as a qualifier, had gotten adjusted already...if so, qualifiers could shock a lot of people here ..

Very possible about the altitude.

I struggled to get through the Wozniaki/Errani match highlight video. One of the least interesting set of "highlights" I've come a cross in a while. Their combined styles make for a painful match to endure, especially when slowed down by the clay.

Actually, the most notable feature of the match was how many drop-shot winners Samsonova had. She drove Osaka crazy with those.

Exposing Osaka’s clay footwork (as I read on Twitter)

Errani's matches are unwatchable.

Coco gets a double bagel on Rus, and Carle upset Kudermetova in straight sets.

Potapova was up 5-2 in the first set vs Leylah-Annie and lost it 7-5, eventually losing the match 6-3 in the second set.

I second the highlighted comment and will add so are Woz's for me.

Carlè plays a very aggressive game and anticipates well. Let's see how far she goes.
