2024 The Greatest Loser: How it works
The Greatest Loser 2024: How it Works
Do think your fantasy tennis teams could win YCWJ?
Do your category A picks manage to find ways to lose their first round matches?
Then this is the contest for you, where you get points if your player loses:
"The Greatest Loser"
It will consist of four weeks of ATP tournaments in Asia and Europe between the U.S. Open and the Year End Championships in .
Teams
Your team must consist of 12 ATP players from the top 100 men on the WTA Tour. Your initial team may not be the same as a team that has already been posted, or it will be disqualified. We'll do our best to help monitor this. However, the responsibility of adhering to the requirements of this rule falls solely in the hands of the contest participant.
The current top 100 players on the WTA tour are divided into 4 categories. Each player is categorized according to her ranking after the US Open.. You must have three (3) players from each category. No Wildcards.
Categories and Player Pricing:
CATEGORY A: Players 1-15.
CATEGORY B: Players 16-40.
CATEGORY C: Players 41-70.
CATEGORY D: Players 71-100.
Each player on your team will only be awarded points if they play. However, you will lose points for each match that they win. The team you choose is supposed to last you the entire contest, and you only get FIVE(5) trades!
Tournaments:
Week 1 Sept 25 - Oct 2:
Tokyo (500 pts)
Beijing (500 pts)
Week 2 Oct 2 - Oct 13:
Shanghai (1000)
Week 3 Oct 21 - Oct 27:
Vienna (500)
Basel (500)
Week 4 Oct 28 = Nov 3:
Bercy (Paris Indoors) (1000)
Scoring:
500 point tournaments 70 45 25 15 7 2
Shanghai 100 70 45 25 15 7 3 1
Bercy 100 70 45 25 15 7 3
Trades:
If you feel that any player on your team is dead weight (winning too many matches), injured, or you just don't want them on your team anymore, you are allowed to trade her for someone else whom you feel is more adequate to fulfill your team's job (lose, of course. )
You are allowed up to FIVE (5) trades during the six-tournament contest.
Trades should be made BEFORE the tournament starts. If your trades are not submitted by the tournament's trade deadline, that trade will not go into effect until the following week.
Remember: YOU MUST ALWAYS HAVE THREE (3) PLAYERS PER CATEGORY ON YOUR TEAM.
The responsibility of finding out who will be playing in which events rests solely on your shoulders. The team you have at the start of each tournament is the team you're playing with.
Should your team fall in the nether regions of a TAT lake, so to speak, or if you just want to complain or have a drink to drown your sorrows, feel free to do so in the Losers Lounge
Your team must be posted before the scheduled start of main draw play in Osaka, which begins Monday, Sept 25, 2024 (local time, which probably means Sunday, Sept 14 GMT and US times) .

Re: 2024 The Greatest Loser: How it works
FYI first tournament does start on the 25th (according to ATP Calendar) but that's Wednesday, not Monday.

Re: 2024 The Greatest Loser: How it works
I see a main draw match in Tokyo in about 3.5 hours so I'd assume that will be the entry deadline... for anyone not entered yet

Re: 2024 The Greatest Loser: How it works
Oops. I have fallen asleep at the wheel. While I knew the date the tournaments started, I didn't pay enough attention to realize that they started on a Wednesday, instead of the usual Monday.

Re: 2024 The Greatest Loser: How it works
I guess we really need a lounge for this contest
Bergs comes through clutch and makes it through qualifying (post deadline) to give two of us a second D player this week. Now he hopefully immediately loses.

Re: 2024 The Greatest Loser: How it works
I'm not too mad that Michelsen took out Tstitsipas since I had both of them. Although now he plays O' Connell so one of them will be a quarterfinalist this week.
But Fils taking out Fritz? C'mon! Right now my C and D players are 3-1 (meanwhile my A and B players got the memo and went 1-2.)

Re: 2024 The Greatest Loser: How it works
Our teams are very similar. Indeed, Fils was not supposed to...
Anyway, Tsitsipas delivered.
