The Greatest Loser 2025: How It Works!

#1

Post by Oploskoffie »

Greetings one and all and welcome to this year’s edition of You Can’t Win Jack XXXL, better known as The Greatest Loser 2025. This is the time of year where we root for our picks to fail forward, repeatedly :D It is the time wherein the setbacks of others are your steppingstones to success and failure at the first hurdle tastes the sweetest.

Fancy the challenge of selecting an out-of-sorts dozen from the WTA top-100 rankings and experiencing a different kind of emotional rollercoaster? Then by all means: take part in our final fantasy tennis contest of the year!

Basics and rules

The contest takes across the entire Asian Swing, meaning a total of no less than ten (!) tournaments over the course of six weeks.
Your team must consist of 12 WTA players from the top-100 women on the WTA Tour, with no more or less than three players from each of the four categories we’ve divided that list into. As has become customary, there is also the option to have one (!) wildcard player from outside of the top-100 players listed to fill in a category D spot. You will have 150 credits to spend on your 12-woman team.

Also, no two contestants may have the same initial team, so your original 12-player team must be different from all other previously posted teams by at least one player. It is your individual responsibility to check the teams that have been posted and make sure yours does not exactly duplicate a team that already has been posted. We will do our best to check entries as they are posted to enforce this, but to save yourself some possible grief later on, we strongly urge each participant to check the teams that already have been posted and make sure your team is different to avoid disqualification.

Each player on your team will only be awarded points if they play. However, you will lose points for each match that they win.

The Deadline

Your initial team is due before the scheduled start of play for a main draw match for week 1's tournament (the Korea Open, scheduled for a September 15 start) -- come rain or shine. You must post your team in the "Post Your Team Here" thread. Any and all entries posted at a later time or in the wrong thread(s) will NOT be accepted.

Trades

Should certain players fail to meet your expectations, there will be FIVE (5) trades for you to use to get your team back in contention.
As always, any trades need to be made in the week BEFORE the next tournament(s) start(s), otherwise the traded player will not earn points until the tournament after that. There will be a "Trades" thread once the competition has started.

Again, please remember that your team must consist of exactly three players from each category. In case of players having the same last name, please add their initial just to be safe.

The Points, The Tournaments, The Players

Each player on your team will be awarded points depending on how deep she or he goes in each tournament. NOTE: Even if a player withdraws or retires from a match, you will receive full credit for the round that player reached, provided they didn’t withdraw from the tournament before their first match.

The next post in this thread shows the tournaments and the points which can be won. The posts after that will list the players in each of the categories and will be posted once the post-USO rankings are published.

And Then?

Whatever happens, we can sit down and talk about it in a (reasonably, surely 😉) civilized manner in The Meltdown Lounge thread.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask in the this thread!

Best of luck!

Bounced out of the women's competition because I couldn't log on to get a pick in yesterday! BUT...I was going to pick Krecjikova, so I'm where I should be. :)

FredX. I am so sorry about that, and thanks for taking it in such a gallant way. This bot attack is driving me insane.

You've made me aware of the need for a minor adjustment to that sentence :D

Player categories and prices have been updated with the post-USO WTA rankings (see post #3 in this thread) and the Post Your Team Here thread has been launched! 8-) You can find it here: viewtopic.php?p=140220#p140220

Once the fun gets underway, the Meltdown Lounge will be opened for business :D Got any questions before then? You can post them in this thread!
