And looks like could be top 20 if he somehow won Paris too :)

Also, apparently he is Rinderknech's cousin ( I may have missed that being mentioned previously though.)
Not apparently. They are direct cousins.
And yes, all because of Shanghai. He has 1823 points, of which, of course, 1000 are from Shanghai.

This guy really came out of nowhere. I've heard of him before, but he never really was above challenger level.

He can live his 1 year of being top 50, and make as much as he can.
But sure, I don't see him becoming a established member of the top 50.

How did you miss that the Shanghai final was the cousin-final? It was all that everyone was talking about. :D
Most weeks I'm just watching the results on the scoreboard :) They should note it there for me!

Heard multiple places about how the advantage of this occurring when it did is he can plan the full schedule for the year and be guaranteed entry

It's just one match, but FAA's win over Vacherot in Paris this morning felt like a common thumping of a top 200 player who was out of his depth. But again, it was just one match.

Correct me if I am wrong, but with this result, I believe that Ben is now the new American #1? Not a trivial accomplishment.

Or, as I said before, he can open an academy with Roberto Carretero. The OHW Academy (think music when you don't know what that means ;) )
