I cared and watched the fifth set. I wanted to see Nakashima make the second week too.jazzyg wrote: ↑Sat Jul 05, 2025 9:32 pm I know it was a match almost no one cared about, but what a rough loss for Nakashima against Sonego today.
He was up 6-2 in the second-set tiebreak on the verge of two-set lead, lost four straight points and had a fifth set point before dropping the tiebreak. He broke early in the third set for the first time in the match for either player, had two points for a double break but then got broken for the first time at 4-3 before losing another tiebreak. After winning the fourth set comfortably, he broke early in the fifth set but got broken back immediately for the second and last time. I don't know if he began cramping, but he got blown out 10-3 in the match tiebreak, which ended at the five-hour mark.
i doubt he would have beaten Shelton in the fourth round--he is 0-4 against hlm, including two defeats this year--but he missed a terrific chance to reach the second week.
