I really can't see how Muchova can beat Mboko ..though I would be happy to see her win her first 1000 ...

I know it is very easy to speak after the fact, but why was it hard to see Muchova beating Mboko?
The problem for Muchova is her consistency. But strokes wise, tell me one stroke she does not master. Her serve is superb, her volleys are the current best in the tour, her backcourt game is solid (and the FH is a weapon).
The score is what you would have expected. Two very good players, and they were separated by very little.
I cannot picture any player Muchova can't beat. Her woes against Coco are simply because of playing styles, not because Karolina's game is not up to Coco's.
Having said that: man, I am delighted she won. Incredible that with that game she has only two titles in her career.

Just going by strokes you are of course right. However Mboko seemed to have a momentum + Muchova is not much of a fighter and usually underperforms in finals. I too am happy that she won. Mboko will have plenty of titles soon enough.

It's got to feel good to pocket a nice chunk of change at the beginning of the year. I wonder how many top 25 players struggle financially?

Top 25, I would be surprised if any. Top 50 too.
Below that point, I gather that you could start seeing a few. But I would say that around the 100 mark, there must be a few. For example, Osorio is well off because she has her few endorsements that keep her up, and life in Colombia is marginally cheaper. But anybody with zero endorsements at that level will probably need to play every week to stay afloat.

I'd say in the top 25 (long time) only if you're really bad with money.Owendonovan wrote: ↑Mon Feb 16, 2026 3:48 pm It's got to feel good to pocket a nice chunk of change at the beginning of the year. I wonder how many top 25 players struggle financially?

I imagine near zero happens only if you're in the 70-100 range, not young and not among the top 3 in your country. There must be such players of course.
As for Muchova she has been averaging about a million dollars per year for the last 11-12 years on the tour. That would be enough for a wealthy life even in Switzerland.
