I think entry is automatic, isn't it, into these tournaments? Isn't it a 'mandatory'?

But even if it wasn't a 'mandatory', of course Leylah would do everything possible to play, as it's her home tournament. She'll have all kinds of media and sponsorship obligations to fulfil in Toronto. She's more experienced in handling those kinds of things now - but the demands on her in Toronto will be more than she's ever seen at any other tournament. I hope she remembers that the primary reason she's there is to play tennis.

She's entered in a couple of 'fun' exhibitions at the end of July, and also at Washington. We'll see how her foot holds up in those.

That's a good question Deuce - I thought the entry was guaranteed, but they still had to fill out paperwork by a certain date to be entered and appear on the list

Lots of talk about Serena entering the tournament.
How about Kenin? Nothing said about that and she is the last American to win a Slam. That would be another welcomed return.

I am not even counting on anything from Danielle Collins. Also players like Kontaveit, Sakkari, Mugu, & Emma I have really no idea what they will do. I really hope Coco and Leylah do well and also Pegula and Halep.

Uhm, now that you mention Danielle. I would put some money there. She played well at the Aussie, this is her slam, she will have serious backing.
Her recent drop can be, maybe, her dislike for anything other than a hard court. Konateit is another: she likes her courts hard and predictable. Sakkari is defending SF's, so she likes it here too.
Mugu:

Watching Danielle Collins since Wimbledon something just doesn't seem right. You might be onto something with the surface, but I don't know if that is all it is.
