Re: '24 Wimbledon Day 13 Order of Play & Discussion
Not a well-played match but some drama at the end.
One double fault by Paolini and one big serve by Krejcikova made the difference.
I would have picked Paolini in 3 just like the non-watching ponchi.

I must admit I never thought Krejcikova would even get close to a 2nd grand slam title

EXCEPT for her wins- Krejcikova's best results at Wimbledon and Roland Garros have been one 4R result for each tournament.JTContinental wrote: ↑Sat Jul 13, 2024 5:08 pm I must admit I never thought Krejcikova would even get close to a 2nd grand slam title
It feels like, we definitely have The Big 1 at Roland Garros, and we may now have The Big 1 at the Australian Open with Sabalenka. With Wimbledon and the US Open- clearly, and until further notice, it is Open Season.

Re: '24 Wimbledon Day 13 Order of Play & Discussion
That men''s doubles final was absolutely insane. The Brit Patten and Finnish Heliövaara saved three match points in the second set tiebreaker to win 6-7 (7-9), 7-6 (10-8), 7-6 (11-9). They actually almost came back in that first set tiebreaker. The match was somewhat dull during the first set until the tiebreaker- a lot of fairly easy service hold games. Throughout most of this match, Thompson and Purcell played better. BUT, obviously, during the biggest points, Patten and Heliövaara- who cried his eyes out after the match- prevailed.
Obviously, this was devastating for Purcell- who at least has one Wimbledon doubles title- and Thompson. Hated to see them lose three match points. But, it was incredibly exciting, and a very deserved win. Patten and Heliövaara just played inspired tennis to win.

Watched in delay. The first set was masterful by Krejcikova, and then, rather mundane. Some good points.
As above. I thought she was a one slam wonder (in singles). Young enough to get a third somewhere.

People did not even vote in the poll.
Nothing the WTA can do, but this lack of excitement is troublesome. Add to the RG final, and these are going to be slim years.

I mean, there ARE enough very talented WTA players out there. Certainly, some of them will step up on a more consistent basis....right.....?

Re: '24 Wimbledon Day 13 Order of Play & Discussion
The final was mediocre, bur Paolini became the most popular player on the tour the past two weeks and will generate increased interest in women's tennis if she sustains this level.
This is based on the way the crowd treated her and her opponents in the last two matches. Watch her court assignments at the US Open as long as she stays in the tournament for proof.
My wife, who is not into tennis much, was glued to the TV for her semifinal and final. People love her underdog status because of her size and her positive attitude.

I can only say I hope you are right.
But her tennis does not stir me one bit. I would much rather have Navarro becoming more of a star.
BTW. Krejcikova's post match on court interview was very, very nice. It got her some points with me.

I'm going to be interested in Paolini's court assignments at Roger's Cup before the US Open.
She's the most charismatic player right now.

Agree about the point on court assignments during the US Open swing about Paolini and to a smaller point, Krejcikovajazzyg wrote: ↑Sat Jul 13, 2024 8:37 pm The final was mediocre, bur Paolini became the most popular player on the tour the past two weeks and will generate increased interest in women's tennis if she sustains this level.

An emotional Taylor Townsend is now a Grand Slam Champion in Doubles.
She and Katerina Siniakova defeated Dabrowski and Routliffe 7-6(5) and 7-6(1).

ESPN couldn't wait to cut away from tennis to basketball could they?
