ponchi101 wrote: Tue Jun 18, 2024 10:34 pm The modern style of playing, on grass, is too risky. You have very long points and you are moving side to side, a lot. The possibility of slipping and falling is too high.
In the past, it was serve and volley, and you were moving forward. Now, it is easy to injure yourself.
I don't disagree with you, but both of those players are attacking players - particularly Evans. Do we know how the injuries occurred?
Ti posted the video of Evans. You can see that he was wrong footed and tries to stop and return. And that leads to his fall.
And that is grass. That same shot, on a hard court, makes you stop and attempt your recovery. On clay, you slide and can't do anything. On grass, they come out injured.
Yes.

Another day, another high profile slip on the grass--today it was Vondrousova's turn, and she retired from her match with a hip injury.

One of my favorite players. I hope she can return and stay healthy. She plays an unique style, and she has that gorgeous slice BH. Second to none currently.

It is like a car. Eventually, you trade it because it is not the engine or the steering, or any of the major things. It is the every day little breakdowns.
Andy, retire. You are a HOF, had a wonderful career. But don't put yourself through this anymore.

For a moment I thought you were going to throw him on the scrap pile. ;)

Yes, it's too bad he couldn't play another Wimbledon.

Tennis Weekly Podcast
@tennisweeklypod
Karolina Muchova quote: “It was my first tournament back after a while and nobody knew what to expect or how my body would react. Today I woke up and when I tried to warm up the body and the wrist it was a little stiff. I’m in touch with my medical team back in Prague and they recommended that I did not risk it with Wimbledon around the corner...."

Karolina Muchova quote continued "...Even though I really love playing in Eastbourne and I felt great on the court here, unfortunately I had to pull out. I really, really loved it here. The grounds are packed and everyone was so nice and supportive, telling me welcome back, so that makes it even more sad for me that I cannot go out and play for them. It’s early in my comeback and I just don’t want to rush it."

If you have a shoulder injury, however minor, just don't play this tournament. You will not win (you need your serve) and you will only aggravate it.

Hurbert Hurkacz is also out of the Olympics because of the knee injury he suffered at Wimbledon.

I just hope Ponchi101 does not read that because he has this new thing that grass has become way too dangerous and this will just make him flip.
And you know how he gets...
