Re: 2024 USOSP Women's Picks and Results Thread
Day 3 Pick Commentary:
Kreijcikova and Badosa are slated to meet in Round 3. Badosa has been playing above her ranking recently, making that match tougher than appears by just their ranking. There are three options: use the one think will lose in Round 3, use both of them while you still can, don't use either so that you have the winner of the Round 3 match available for Round 4 and beyond. I have absolutely no clue as to the correct strategy.
I think the best picks are players who will win in Round 2, but lose in Round 3. Picks that I think meets this condition are, Alexandrova, Kostyuk, Azarenka, Vekic, Mertens
I think that Svitolina will lose her third round match to Gauff, but I am not as sure as the others.
Might be too early, that is the pick is likely to win their third round match: Keys, Navarro, Kasatkina
I don't know enough about Niemeier or her opponent to make a judgement on this pick.

Re: 2024 USOSP Women's Picks and Results Thread
Dear players.
As JT has stated above, JT's laptop suffered a catastrophic failure. We have taken over the running of the pool until JT gets some new hardware, but this has never happened before. SO:
PLEASE TAKE A CLOSE LOOK AT YOUR PICKS AND LET US KNOW IF THERE ARE ANY ERRORS. TMQ has been replaced by TM Water Boy (mainly, I) and errors may have crept in.
Thanks for your comprehension.

LOL, after my Lehecka pick, it takes Alexandrova SEVEN!!!!! match points to finally beat the 16 year old Jovic 7-5 in the third.
AGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
....NOW watch Alexnadrova beat Sabalenka next round, at least make the final, and find a way to ruin my ongoing chances.

I honestly can’t remember ever doing a double pick. So I guess it was time. I love Svitolina, and I guess I was thinking I would not have used her in the first round. Dum, dum dum dum. GH

Re: 2024 USOSP Women's Picks and Results Thread
We start with 86 picks, meaning somebody woke up late. There is a clear bandwagon, and a second one that is also pretty big:
Wozniacki 22
Potapova 19
Dolehide 9
Pavlyuchenkova 8
Boulter 7
Kalinskaya 6
Haddad Maia 6
Putintseva 5
Shnaider 3
Andreeva 1
I will not make any comments because I know that I will jinx everybody that I as much as remotely mention. Actually, making a comment that I will not make comments because I can jinx somebody is already a jinx on everybody.
Will start updating the rest of this topic. Good luck.

I'll make some comments!
Kalinskaya: never trust a K! (although at 4-4 in the 2nd set, you're looking good)
Wozniacki: the marathon woman takes the court at 9pm, so your biggest threat is forgetting to make a Day 5 pick when she wins
Potapova: will she come through smelling like Potpourri or Port-a-Potty? The ancient UzBecky American would have to summons up all her 2014 energy and some former USSR intra-rivalry juju to trip up the rising Russian
Dolehide: is there a sugar high after beating Collins? More like a vinegar rush. Let's hope she doesn't suffer the slump-after-a-big win when facing Errani, who surely tapped rackets with Paolini for good luck
Pavlyuchenkova: brilliant choice! No further comments
Haddad Maia: the Brazilian seemed like a hot topic in summer of 23. Does she have brat energy? I'm not so sure
Schnaider: ever a crap shoot
Andreeva: petulant teens will do what they want on any given day, and she's facing an American with big USA crowd energy. Watch out!
Putintseva: About to win. Should you have seva'd her for later?
Boulter: I'll never forgive her for her part in defeating Venus/Murray at Wimbledon mixed doubles* (but she is good!)
*it was actually Alicia Barnett, but since she's not here today I'm holding Katie accountable

You are underestimating Shnaider..she is seriously good, and quite dependable
I am saving her for later

I swear this is true. I woke up this morning. I had picked Boulter yesterday. I said: nah, she burned you at Wimby. Don't risk it.
So I switched to Wozniacki, because, of course, if she wins, she gets to play Rybakina in the next round.
What could possibly go wrong with that plan?

How is Errani still winning singles matches - shouldn’t she have retired by now (or at least focused only on doubles with Paolini).

Started with 86, lost 17. We are down to 69.
Make those picks for tomorrow. It only gets hairier from now on.
(I have no idea who to pick next).
