The Chinese are progressing fast. With a middle class of about 300 MM people, they will soon reach powerhouse status.
They have produced a lot of good female players. Let's see how long before they have a top 10 in the ATP.

Good to see Cilic back, I was thinking he might call it quits!

I was always wondering why he gets little recognition and support, comparing to DelPo. Their styles are virtually identical. And accomplishments are also neck-in-neck.

I would give Marin the edge. One USO in common, but Cilic got to a W and AUS final. DC's are even, and their total titles are 21/22 (Delpo leads).
BTW. Just found out that at #777, he is the lowest ranked player ever to win an ATP title. We know how that happened, but still, pretty imrpessive.

There are some metrics where DelPo is better (i.e win percentages), but overall they are close. In 1968-2023 weighted ranking DelPo is #31, while Marin is #42. Mainly because DelPo on average won bigger tournaments. Only 11 out of his 22 are 250s, while Marin has 15 out of 21. So JMDP has half of his titles 500 and above, while Cilic - 28%. But Cilic won more matches overall and has marginally better Slams resume. My points is - not a lot to separate them. And I can't think of any other two players who are so similar in style, while one is not the lesser copy of the other (we have plenty of those "poor man's" insert the name).

I have seen a DC match where Delpo thrashed Cilic- no I don't think Cilic is as good as Delpo..but it doesn't matter, he is plenty good enough...at his best, Delpo was in the class of Federer/Nadal/Djokovic..too bad he had to quit with injuries...

No, he wasn't. Good movement, but not elite. Cilic has the same weakness.
