Re: ATP & WTA rankings
Now that the year is done, what (at the moment) should the rankings be?
Men:
1. Sinner
2. Alcaraz
3. Djokovic
4. Fritz
5. Zverev
6. Medvedev
Women:
1. Sabalenka
2. Swiatek
3. Gauff
4. QZ
5. Paolini
6. Muchova
Thoughts?

Re: ATP & WTA rankings
Djokovic should be #3 based on 2 top ten wins, two finals, and no titles? (Olympics doesn't count in rankings).

Re: ATP & WTA rankings
Zverev is better than Fritz. Putting Fritz ahead is just based on indoor hard results.

Could be, but the h2h is 7-5 in Fritz' favor...also, Fritz beat him at the USO..so not all indoors...

Re: ATP & WTA rankings
Since you said rankings, I say Novak does not belong in the top 6. He did almost nothing this year.
But I suspect he has been injured for quite a while. Is he better than anybody other than Sinner and Alcaraz? Maybe. But not enough to rank #3.
And I know we love Muchova. But ranking her at #6 is a bit high. She had a very good USO run. But not much since.

Re: ATP & WTA rankings
Yes. But that is only on tournament. Not enough to bump her over, for example, Pegula, who won Toronto, and made the finals of Cincy and the USO.
Forgot those already?

Re: ATP & WTA rankings
You are talking rankings, this time. Not your concept of "Tiers".
Maybe Pegula is overrated, but rankings say otherwise.
You and I are not going to disagree on how beautifully Muchova plays. And that her injuries have affected her achievements a lot. But, at comparable ages, Pegula has achieved more. With those caveats, but she has.

Re: ATP & WTA rankings
If we are talking rankings as commonly understood, all we would have to do is look at the tennis.com website! I am talking about subjective estimates of good the player is, st this moment.

OH, you are asking me to be knowingly subjective! That's a bit too much for me

Re: ATP & WTA rankings
No. I try to keep this sort of rankings as objective as possible. If a player like Pegula has a higher ranking than another player, I will trust the ranking. The system has been fine-tuned for decades, so that is fine with me.
Who is the better player? Well, Muchova certainly has a much more beautiful game, to me. But the results are not there, so I yield to the numerical evidence.
