I said it before. It will be good, when the USA and all the people that rely on these working aliens realize how important they are.
And the sole way of doing that is losing them.

Good? I don't know, ponchi. I definitely want the U.S. public to realize how important these people are. But not because of our economic reliance on them or because it will threaten our economy or convenience. I want the U.S. public to realize how important these people are because, well, they're people. And not one of us possesses more of "God" than they do.

You point is philosophical and moral. Indeed, how good would it be if the MAGA crowd were to realize that these immigrants allow for a lot of the greatness of the USA to actually happen.dryrunguy wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 11:18 pmGood? Mine is practical. The MAGA crowd will never learn anything until they are slapped on the face. Or until, as we have been "joking" here, the leopard eats their face.

One small correction here - Spacex is ITAR regulated and thus forbidden from hiring non residents.
Also why the silly assumption that Americans are necessarily more skilled? At the very top it would indeed be very stupid not to hire the best. What needs to change is the silly immigration system. Such people should be given residence cards not visas. Like I got in Switzerland 15 years ago.

What do you think the USA should do for a 45 yo, with 20+ years experience in a solid field, and with a BS and MsSc from American universities, fluent in English? Automatic residency?Suliso wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2024 11:33 pm One small correction here - Spacex is ITAR regulated and thus forbidden from hiring non residents.

Re: Business/Markets/Stocks/Economics Random, Random
People have gone deeply into debt in pursuit of the degrees that would allow them to compete fairly for top level jobs. Now they're being told that none of that matters because American citizens are lazy and stupid (read want a work life balance and a level of pay that would help them to start paying off said debt since the GOP doesn't believe in forgiveness of student loan debt) and will lose jobs to people coming in who are willing to work 70 hour weeks for mid level pay (no overtime remember) under what are already being called slave contracts and not whine about never seeing their families preferring to sleep on the floor of their office.

I'm reading that the leopards are already full and are asking the lions, tigers and bears for backup.

Only based on that no, but if a Google offers a job paying 200k then yes. Also an easy path for those just graduating with MsSc or PhD from US universities. Only in the latter case should be careful about cheating. I'd make a strict list of universities (50-100) and majors which qualify. Otherwise you'll get lots of marketing degrees from North Missisipi state. That would be very counterproductive.ponchi101 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 1:07 amWhat do you think the USA should do for a 45 yo, with 20+ years experience in a solid field, and with a BS and MsSc from American universities, fluent in English? One factor people need to be mindful of, is that, today, work can be remote..indeed, Google already has thousands of people working for them in India ..technology will simply vault all the walls Trump and his ilk put up. GCCs have already sprung up all over India..everyone in tech and banking has one, for sure.

GCC is a term for this peculiar form of offshoring- it is still your own company but operates in India, subject to Indian laws. Global Capability Centre. So US jobs would not be saved.
