I am afraid that Mick's concern that Zverev will be broken after this defeat will become true.
We need a third slam contender. I know that Zverev is nobody's favorite but the rest of the cast looks already on their way out. Medvedev, Tsitsipas (as said above), Rublev (who was never a real contender), Fritz and Ruud seem not even close. Rune's promise was flukey, at best. Maybe Shelton can cut down on the errors.

Not those guys. It will be someone much younger than them. Maybe Shelton indeed.

Has that ever happened before? I dont remember an instance, offhand..
Nadal did not face a break point when he beat Kevin Anderson in the 2017 US Open final.

I watched the men's final Tuesday, after all the coverage of Sinner's perfection and Zverev's reaction of utter futility. I was shocked by what I saw - I thought Zverev was well in the match and lost it primarily because of his attitude and unforced errors. Sinner didn't smother him with offense or defense. He played very, very well, and obviously played the matchup well, but Zverev had a ton of chances to be aggressive and was pretty successful when he was. I know Sinner sort of smothered him with pressure by being super consistent and serving well (never faced a break point), but that's pressure you can deal with. That's not taking the racket out of someone's hand. I think Zverev's attitude hurt him more than Sinner did. He was the better player in the 2nd set and just got unlucky.

They played a very similar match. And it boiled down to: everything Zverev did, Sinner did a little better.

Sinner played a better match overall, but I thought Zverev had the edge in the 2nd. I just thought there was a lot of room for Zverev to play better. It’s not like he played his absolute best and it wasn’t good enough, as he made it sound. I wasn’t glued to it, but every time I looked up, Zverev was forcing an error or controlling the point only to make an unforced error not every but a mighty lot.

I’d say yes at the most important times. Which wasn’t a steamroll to me.
