Re: 2025 The Slide into Paris: The Mud Puddle
My strategy of picking players and posting a team is not working that well. For some reason, I pick players than then don't win. I am baffled, as I certainly made sure to pick players that have a record of sucking big time for years, meaning that they were expected to do a regression to the mean and not suck for the clay season.
I wonder what I did wrong.

Was hoping Gauff might be my way to gain points this week since no one originally had her, but see three added her too after I went to sleep
Can't sleep if you want to be competitive in some of these

Wow, sounds like you are not getting enough sleep to begin with, to actually think Gauff was an outlier this week, and nobody would add her to their team, after she just made the final of the last tournament, Madrid! Now, had you picked her before Madrid ......

Yeah no kidding, we were all too late by a week.Omegadoom wrote: ↑Tue May 06, 2025 8:18 pmWow, sounds like you are not getting enough sleep to begin with, to actually think Gauff was an outlier this week, and nobody would add her to their team, after she just made the final of the last tournament, Madrid! It wasn't a case of thinking I was picking an outlier, it was a case of "ok, it's after midnight here, and trade deadline is in 5-6 hours. No one else has picked Gauff, so maybe I'll get lucky since a couple of people said they weren't doing trades."
Or everyone would be so convinced she couldn't win on clay twice in a row.
Regardless, this wound up a very hard contest to comeback from not having the right people in week one (even more than usual.) I should've planned more to do like Ashkor did!

My last traded in player gets me the same number of points as the number of games she won (1)

I dropped Sabalenka instead of Swiatek for my trade figuring Swiatek would be more likely to help "come back" if she did good... clearly the wrong move!

I dropped neither, because I am second to last. But I was also expecting Iga to bounce back. I felt she was at least good for the semis.

Re: 2025 The Slide into Paris: The Mud Puddle
I may or may not regret not trading Gauff in like a lot of others. But I wasn't ready to take a chance on her even though she finally played a decent tournament at Madrid. Plus I was in 4th, so doing the same as others wouldn't really get me anywhere!
I have 2 players still in on the top half: Sabalenka and Andreeva and I have 4 players still in on the bottom half.

On the plus side it makes for some easy contest schzio for predictions, where none of my players are making the semis (although it's not very far fetched.)

I'm just petrified to say or think anything regarding any outcomes at this point. Such things tend to end up working against me

Our players mess up often enough that we don't even need to jinx em!
