I used to play in the Volvo league in the DC area.. it was fun, got to meet people, play at different venues..we do have senior tournaments here but I have stopped playing .. you end up having to play at noon in the sun, no way I can handle that!

I don't know if you meant this as a metaphor for tennis, or actual exploration of the area.Fastbackss wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 10:04 pm So, after getting trounced for years at a 3.5 rating - the algorithm FINALLY dropped me to a 3.0. (Literally was winning maybe one or two matches per year)
Because this happens effective December 1, I was able to immediately start playing at that level.
I signed up for Sectionals (in this case the Midwest). Winner gets entry to Nationals.
Managed to win my flight, but ran out of gas in the quarters (after blowing 8 set points in the first set). I didn't get the automatic bid - but did manage to get a fair amount of points.
The second bid for the Midwest goes to "the highest ranked player who signs up that didn't win sectionals." I "watched" the list and saw I was in good position. So...pulled the trigger three hours before the registration deadline...and I got accepted. Guess I am going to Florida.
The event is held at the USTA campus near Orlando - and is crazy cheap to enter.
I have no designs on winning - but hope to acquit myself decently and have fun while doing lots of exploring.
Whatever it is, I wish you success.

Congratulations! This is incredible. You'll love the national campus at Lake Nona. When are you going?Fastbackss wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 10:04 pm So, after getting trounced for years at a 3.5 rating - the algorithm FINALLY dropped me to a 3.0. Get better.
My elbow has not improved with the lay off. I gather I will have to go back on court and hit a 2H BH.
It has been decades since.

Re: Did you play today?
So... I haven't played in months, but I hope everyone's injuries are getting better, and that you had a wonderful time at the tournament in April, Fastbackss.
For those of us who play on public courts, have you ever run into someone who is doing a photo shoot on the courts and won't leave at the designated hour to change courts? This is happening now to my son, who texted me about it. He enlisted the help of a couple who also came to wait for a court, and the 2 people taking pictures wouldn't leave!!!! What to do? I have never heard of anything like it. Bad enough that they are on there in the first place, taking up precious playing space and time.

Fodder for my current pet peeve/theory that, for some reason, people are losing manners and have become ruder in recent times.
I blame it on smart phones.

That one I have not encountered!Irena2 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 03, 2025 12:24 am So... I haven't played in months, but I hope everyone's injuries are getting better, and that you had a wonderful time at the tournament in April, Fastbackss.

We do have reserved court time through the city one evening per week. They have a sign up. People come and play a version of soccer using the nets almost like volleyball. That has waned and currently the challenge is that there are two batches of three courts. We use the three closest to the parking lot. People insist on walking through ours. Last time a guy defiantly walked through slowly...twice...rather than use the gates on the outside of the court.
(And the tournament was amazing, thank you for asking. Ironically I just played in my first compass draw tournament yesterday. Never did that before - was a fun format - one set matches, guaranteed four of them - you stay in your bracket till lose and then change. I would have had more fun if not for the self rated player who rated himself way too low lol. (And I may have mentioned that to him))
