She gave a lot of points in AMITS. And now...
That is the reason she has never been tops. She has so many of this "what happened?" losses.

Ruse improved to 4-0 against Yastremska in her "shocking" win.
I watched the end of Kostyuk's match. Both players were in terrible form. She rallied from a deficit in match tiebreak to get to 7-all, then dumped the next three points in ugly fashion.

I had never seen Jacquemot before. Her serve was a wild watch, especially in the tight moments. At first, I decided she had a few hitches in her motion. And then I decided she had hitches AND a penchant for chasing her toss--wherever it was, and I mean WHEREVER IT WAS. She needs to be enrolled in Venus' 5-minute "How to Catch Your Toss--And Why You Should" clinic. Hard to watch.
But in spite of that and the occasional double fault at really bad times, she ended up getting some really funky action on some of these accidental serves that were brutal for Kostyuk to handle--the kind of funk a rightly shouldn't be able to pull off. Shades of Dementieva serving to Lindsay. Yeah, hard to watch. But she persevered in the ground game, and that ended up being the difference.

Brooksby is a tricky player: strong mentally, has a wide variety of patterns, good anticipation. He generally plays quite clean and close to the lines. But Bublik just does the same a bit better (except mental part) plus has more power. And nowadays you can't even fault Bublik regarding his mental disposition - so far he holds well this year.

Baptiste vs Townsend was a good match. Baptiste plays a very subtle crafty game while Townsend is all about power. In the end Baptiste won.meganfernandez wrote: ↑Sun Jan 18, 2026 3:56 amDiallo lost the plot. Bagel second set. Let't see if he can get it back on track.
Baptiste and Townsend is pretty good.

Bublik's current approach when he is playing is completely different. He no longer wants to just hit the one spectacular shot of the match; he is playing to win.mick1303 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 18, 2026 9:45 pm Brooksby is a tricky player: strong mentally, has a wide variety of patterns, good anticipation. As I said. He is the one player that I believe can beat one of the top two.
