I think Zverev still is..JTContinental wrote: ↑Wed Jan 28, 2026 5:37 am Despite our assertions to the contrary, Musetti sure is looking like the #3 player in the world.

Maybe, but Musetti certainly played at #3 level before his unfortunate injury.
I'll revise this opinion if Zverev beats Alcaraz

I don't, but IF he does then I agree 99.9% that he actually is the 3rd best player now. Otherwise Djokovic and Musetti have an equally strong claim.

Sinner grinded out a straight sets victory. Was never in any serious danger (no serve lost).

Pegula had something to do with that...
Jpeg is again the gold standard..only a true champion can beat her..which AA is not,yet

What exactly happened with Musetti? Did he get injured during play? All the videos I saw are of him walking over, not the injury itself

At this rate, hand the trophy to Djokovic. Someone has cursed his opponents. Didn't see the match, but what an unfortunate way to lose for Musetti. Injuries seem to hamper him at the most inopportune time (not that there is ever a good time).
It seems like time is going backwards towards 1984 . . .

Musetti was crushed under the weight of all of us pointing out he was the #3 player in the world temporarily!

Please, as M8 said. What was the injury? I left the match after he won the second set. He looked fit, he was playing gorgeous tennis.
What was the injury? Torn courage? He strained his will? Twisted his "forza Italia!"?
What happened?

Re: '26 Aus Open day 11 OoP & Discussion
From ESPN article
Musetti took the first two sets 6-4, 6-3 but needed a medical timeout for treatment on his upper right leg after being broken in the third game of the third. The 23-year-old Italian player tried to keep going for almost two games but couldn't continue.
After serving a double fault in the fifth game to give Djokovic another break-point chance, Musetti wiped a hand across his face, walked toward the net and removed his headband before exchanging a handshake and quick hug.

Thanks. Like the others I had no idea what happened.
