This should be good. I like Winter Olympics far more than Summer.

Absolutely love the traditional/ceremonial Mongolian outfits!

As the (sole?) remaining curling fan with Deuce gone, must point out opening draw is in less than an hour for mixed doubles.

The team Olympic trials was in Halifax in November, so my claim to "fame" was me and son rode and elevator with the female (Jocelyn Peterman) of the mixed team, and then said good luck to the male (her husband Brett Gallant) for the men's team final - he won that too so he will be competing in mixed and team event.

While I wouldn't call myself a fan, I do try to get in some curling viewing each winter. I'm assuming it gets more airtime in Canada than it does in the Netherlands and that's where things already get a bit challenging, never mind different time zones.

I recently read you mentioning your son being a curler and taking part in a tournament; very cool! Is it just fun for him, or does he have ambitions to, say, make it to the Olympics? Did/do you play as well?

On a related side note... I reconfigured the scoring module for TAT's summer Olympics prediction game for use at my office for a winter Olympics contest. My team ain't huge, but having selected the women's final on the final day of the event, I predict at least 11 more people will be watching that than would otherwise have been the case

This is his first year on a true team (he'd spared for teams before and played pickup for some teams) so it's been quite the different experience this year :) We were just at provincials and after a mostly so/so season, they went through round robin undefeated and entered playoffs as #1 seed. They wound up losing in semifinals, a game that largely swung on a missed shot in fifth end (they play 6.)

So hard to say how ambitious they will be yet... this tournament likely has them all a little more excited though!

Growing up in smalltown northern Minnesota, curling was part of our winter gym classes.

Growing up in torridly hot south America, I am a huge fan of curling because... it resembles "bolas criollas" totally.
So, I will be watching curling and all the ski events.

Mary Carillo will be stepping in for Savannah Guthrie (for obvious reasons) for television coverage.
