Yes, it is unfortunate that he's such a jerk because his playing style is very smooth, reminding one somewhat of the 'Big Cat', Miloslav Mecir.Liamvalid wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 9:31 pmIt’s a pity he turned out to be such a twonk, I really enjoyed watching him on the grass when he first started out. If he is serious about this redemption tour, then I hope he can turn things around for himselfponchi101 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 3:28 pmHe can have a NEW desire to win, but not an improved, because he never had one. He has always been terrible in the COMPETITIVE area, which was a shame for Australia.JTContinental wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 9:42 am Tomic is on a redemption tour this year, supposedly with a new, improved attitude and desire to win. We'll see, I guess
It would have been nice to see a vastly different style of play toward the top of the ATP.
Off Topic
A few years ago, I was on an outside court at one of his qualification matches where there were only benches, not individual seats... There was another court right next to the benches for 'Tomic's court', and I and a few other people were standing on the top bench watching the practice on the other court (which we were actually physically closer to, as this other court had no benches or seats, just a fence - so it's like we were standing on the top of the fence). The practice was, of course, more entertaining than the match that Tomic was, naturally, tanking. None of us were moving or talking, and so were not disturbing the players in the Tomic match in any way.
As we were watching the practice, an overzealous usher told us that we must sit down and watch Tomic's match, out of respect. He said, out loud so that many people heard, that for us to find what's going on on the other court to be more interesting is 'rude' and disrespectful to the players in the Tomic match. I replied "Are you serious? What's disrespectful is this guy Tomic never giving anywhere near 100% in his matches. It's disrespectful to the fans, to his opponents, to the tournament, and to the sport of tennis. Look - we're not moving or talking or disturbing the players here in any way. I'll tell you what - I'll agree to pay full attention to this match for as long as Tomic gives 100% effort. Let me know when that happens, please."
Several of the spectators laughed at what I said. The poor usher didn't know enough about tennis to know Tomic and his reputation... but he didn't bother us again (we continued standing to watch the practice on the other court).

Well at least Kimberly Birrell will not eliminate me from the Suicide Pool this year.
Harriet Dart beat her in straight sets in the final round of qualifying.

In that line of thought, we ought to all be thankful to Rebecca Marino for beating K Bondarenko. Otherwise a disaster might have occurred.

Re: '22 AO Qualifying Draws, OoP & Discussion
Canadian Rebecca Marino gets through qualifying with a tough come from behind win over Kamilla Rakhimova. She won the 3rd set tiebreak 10-7 (I forgot they play 10 point tiebreaks in the 3rd set even in qualifying, and was wondering why they wee playing on at 8-6!).
It's always nice to see Rebecca do well, as she's a really nice person.
