This is a huge result. Very high chance now of a new GS champion!

Wow he did it. Even when he was up 0-40 in that last game, I still didn't think it would happen

How wonderful. Love it for Foe. I hope he can keep it going. I think Wayne Ferreira is his coach. Cilic is the only GS winner remaining, right? I think Kyrgios and Berrettini are tied for the favorite. Alcaraz lurking.

Yes, Cilic is the last GS winner standing. Alcaraz definitely can take him out tonight. it should be an interesting match.

His best match ever? I guess this is his level when he plays controlled tennis.
Good for Frances, and I hope he can keep this level.

I mean, I'll point out that, clearly, Rafa is not at his best. He must be in a good amount of physical pain. Still- great result for Tiafoe.

so I missed the first 2 sets completely...and I'm with nelslus...Rafa didn't look himself/at his best...any particular clues? did his stomach tear recur or did he just not recover well from previous matches?

Could be part of the "How much do you have to play before a slam?" conversation. His serve was nowhere near effective; I felt he was tossing it a bit lower to avoid having to stretch too much. But he looked out of rhythm during his second match, too.
I say he cancels the rest of the year. Baby on its way, he has no points to defend, really let everything heal.

And washed-out Karo Pliskova makes the QF's.
And I would love for her to win it.

That would mean two robots with zero personality had won back to back slams.

But at least Rybakina plays with an ounce of creativity. Pliskova is like watching paint dry for me.

Indeed. But I like the quiet types, and you can't be more quiet than Karo.
Unless you are Rybakina, as you say.
I just think Karo has worked hard all her life, and sort of "deserves" it. Which I know applies to about 10 other players too, but I sort of like her. The limited-handicapping movement is endearing.

Serving at break point, 5-3 ad out, Sabalenka changed her racket between first and second serves. Didn't look like a broken string. Wozniacki said she's never seen that. She won the point. Then on her set point, she double-faulted. Got it back and hit a second-serve ace to win the set.

The serving in this match is some of the worst I've seen.

And Sinner is becoming quiet adept at this: blowing his opponent in the first set, gain an early advantage in the second, and then lose the set. He had Ivashka dead and ready for burial, and here they are, 1-1.
