BTW.
Iga comes with a 9 match winning streak in finals. She is 1-9, losing only the 1st one.
All her winning matches have been in straight sets.

A better than average match.
The streak of 4 different winners and at least 2 new winners in Slams is broken.
Congrats to Iga. She is clearly above everybody else. And I wonder how much she is liking those balls now :)

Swiatek is the first female player to win slams on different surfaces in the same year since Serena won the first 3 majors of the year in 2015.

I'll post this here as well.

Yes, quite a good match...many of the ufe s were really forced by the other platers's pace and movement...both played better than I expected, especially in the second set. It was worth waking up at 3 am for!

Same. No surprise here. Iga is by far the best player right now, has the most tools, and plays the big points best. She is disciplined and plays every point with clarity and conviction. It's pretty hard to make her uncomfortable or get her out of position. A very intimidating and frustrating presence across the net. I hope others raise their level in response. Usually that's what happens. Someone sets a bar and others see what they have to do, where they need to be.

I don't think Ons played well. Only in a few short streaks, and Iga's level dipped at those times. Serving at 5-4 in the second-set TB, I think Ons missed two routine forehands. Or she missed two a couple games earlier at a similar pivotal point, maybe when she had 15-40 on Iga's serve at 5-4 or 6-5. Anyway, I'm pretty sure Ons will be disappointed with her level, happy she fought, but knowing she could have played a lot better and maybe even won. She played a lot more freely vs Garcia.

She has Garcia's number. ESPN mentioned that they were 2-0 in the tour, but also 4-0 as juniors (they are the same age).
Some players simply have another player's number. I remember that even when Pete was the cleat #1, his record against Krajicek was very much in the negative. They ended up at 4-6 (Pete). There was something there that bugged him.
So Ons went against Garcia with not a lot to think about.
