Samsonova is one player I am looking for good results from, at Miami..she has the right game, and is presumably fresh after losing early at IW..

Swiatek has pulled out with a rib injury. Apparently she had an infection last month, which caused some coughing strong enough to pull a rib muscle. Out of Billie Jean King Cup also.

I blew up a hernia. Not the same thing, but coughing is an extreme strain on the body.

I never thoight indoor versus outdoor be that different! are there any precedents we know of? of someone being very good indoors but not outdoors? Kvitova and Safarova come to mind, but then Safarova did get to the finals of the French..and Kvitova has a known allergy issue..
Agree. But the pattern for Parks is clear. Andorra, Angers and Lyon: w, w, w (all 125's or 250's). Everything else is 1R or 2R.
So I gather she can tell us that indeed, very different.

Interesting match between Bianca and Emma. They both seem to be trending in the right direction, though I would say despite Bianca being the better player today, she's the one who is still further away from what she was at her peak in 2019.

She's done well outdoors too, but Anett Kontaveit clearly excels the most indoors. A healthy amount of the finals she's made are on indoor courts. And a strong argument can be made (right now) that Felix Auger-Aliassime is another who excels on indoor hard courts more so than any other surface. All but one of the hard court finals he has made has been indoors. And that's not counting the Laver Cup and Davis Cup.

Anisimova pulling the crap of retiring, one game away from losing, 7-6, 5-2.
Sure, you can retire. But you really could not stand there at the baseline and let your opponent get the W?

Intense - yes. But to a degree that you can damage your own rib - sounds like a stretch. Maybe she is taking too much from the book of her idol - Rafa Nadal. Who was - oh, so hurt in his loss to Soderling - that in order to demonstrate how hurt he was - skipped Wimbledon. And then of course he was still hurt when DelPo cleaned his clock in US Open.

Let me see if I get this straight. Rafa lost to Soderling at RG, the tournament he loves the most, and claimed a fake injury, and then, so nobody would doubt the reality of his injury he skipped Wimbledon, where he was the defending champion, so he would not be called on that lie?
I mean, how evil can a person be?

Her retirement was shown on TC during the Andreescu vs Raducanu match, and it was a bit odd to me. Sounds like she sustained a hip injury during the match and had a visit from the trainer. She had her heads in her hands or towel before the final game was going to be played, but didn't appear to necessarily be about to retire. She didn't make an overt move to do so in that moment. She was just sitting there. Then the chair says to her, if she wants to retire, she can retire. And so she does. I'm not sure if the chair doesn't tell her to go to the line the next game needs to start, she doesn't just do that and get through that final game. It was rather odd. Maybe the chair made the right call, maybe the pain was more visible that it appeared in the short clip I saw and that's why she said that to Amanda. But as you said, also seems like she could've stood there and let 4 balls fly past her as well.
