This is some scary sh**. Eubanks was also sick today. One medical time out, and at one other point, he asked for nausea medications. He already had talked about having an upset stomach during his first round match.
Sheeesh, can't wait until I get to the Open next week....

According to Chrissy, Tomljanovic has been try to comeback since the French Open, and kind of forced it to play here. Ajla told her before the tournament she was only at 80%.meganfernandez wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 9:36 pmWonder if she and Thiem are flu-strickenJTContinental wrote:Ajla Tomljanovic has withdrawn, giving Rybakina a walkover to R3. McEnroe is out with confirmed Covid.
Talk is Carlitos didn't sound good yesterday.
Ons had trouble breathing.
Thiem cited gastric issues/nausea
Eubanks was sick

I was all ready to post about the Chinese women being 8-0 at the U.S. Open, but lo and behold, I see Pera came back from the brink of defeat to win in three over Xiyu Wang now that I'm checking scores.
There were only five Chinese women in the draw--Lin Zhu, Xinyu Wang, Xiyu Wang, Yafan Wang and Quinwen Zhang. The latter two play their second-rounders tomorrow. Zhu pummeled Azarenka today, and Xinyu Wang outlasted Sorribes Tormo.

I guess Tsitsi proves love is more important than tennis ..which we all know, but we aren't the ones giving up the prize money. But I imagine they will star in fashion magazines, so they can make up some of that loss..

Re: '23 USO Day 3 OoP & Discussion
Heck of an effort by Paul to come back from two sets down to beat Safiullin in a high-quality match. It sets up a crackerjack match between Paul and Davidovich Fokina, who was my pick to reach the semis before the tourney started.
And Vesely celebrated like he'd made the semifinals when he finally finished off the good Cerundulo in a fifth-set tiebreak after blowing a two-set lead and then coming back from a break down twice in the fifth set, including when Cerundolo served for the match at 6-5.
This is why I love the first week of slams. I believe this was Vesely's last available entry with a protected ranking (he is in the 400s at the moment), and he was overjoyed to reach the third round of a non-Wimbledon slam for only the third time. This could be career sustaining for him, and if he recovers physically (a big if), he has a good shot to beat Gojo and set up a meeting with Djokovic in the fourth round. He is 2-0 lifetime against Djokovic, so even when he loses that match decisively, he will be one of the very few active players with a winning record versus Djokovic.

Thanks for the Vesely context. Nice story for him. Hope he wins the next one.

Excuse me?! Ashkor, stuff like that can get you banned from THIS forum!!!! Next thing you know, you will say that (I don't know) CRICKET is more important than tennis, and then you will push my hand!!!
(And no, LOVE is not more important than tennis. Love is wonderful, if they love you back. Tennis is wonderful, regardless of anything )

Tennis. Is wonderful only if they hit it back?!

That was one terrible performance by Kvitova..what does it say about the current crop if someone like Wozniacki, who was roughly their peer, can come back and beat them?
