Great win for Kalinskaya over Alexandrova, who led their head-to-head 6-0 and was three points from winning in straights at 5-6 in the second-set tiebreak. Kalinskaya was outstanding for the final two sets.

I really believe she has slam-winning potential if she can stay healthy, which I understand is a stretch based on her history. Her game is so smooth, and her backhand is elite. She also apparently is in the top seven on tour this year in second-serve points won and second-serve return points won. She won seven straight matches against top-10 players last year, including beating Swiatek, who will be her quarterfinal opponent on Friday.

Mental toughness and fitness have held her back--she crumbled in an Aussie Open quarterfinal against Zheng last year after winning the first set and again in a pair of matches against Paolini and again in the Washington final against Fernandez a few weeks ago--but she showed that strength tonight.

She's 31 and has a game that reiies heavily on court coverage. I think she's just a bit slower these days or maybe she's nursing a small injury.

The interesting matches today are Krejcikova-Paolini and Sinner-FAA..
FAA certainly has a chance, his serve will be hard to deal with on this fast court..40% FAA i would say..I would bet on Paoljni to beat K ..65%,..I don't expect K to enjoy the conditions here. But the real revelation has been Kudermetova..I never thought she could do well here.

Today's order of play on:

Tennis Channel:
As widely expected, all Center all day, with Shelton/Lehecka as a convenient filler to bridge between the day and night sessions.

Tennis Channel 2 (Final day of involvement):
Grandstand until the conclusion of Seidel/Gracheva.

FAA at 40% is way too high. He will hit his inside out FH again and again into Jannik's BH, and that will lead to Jannik getting used to it by the 2nd game. FAA's big problem is his lack of variety, and that is nothing more than a plate of cannoli's for Jannick. He will eat those with relish.

It was late and I turned off, but I am surprised by this win. Alexandrova was playing not that great and was still clearly ahead.
That Kalinskaya turned it around is indeed a very good win; she was not doing much last night.

"Inside out forehand? Here is an even more angled cross court back hand"
"Inside out forehand? How about if I run around my BH because I have so much space I can blast MY inside out forehand for a winner?"
"Inside out... Dude, do you have anything else other than an inside out forehand?"

Atmane with his 2nd consecutive top 10 win, this time over Holger Rune. Before this event he had one tour level win this year. He has now doubled his career tour level wins this week with 5 (plus two more wins in qualifying) to reach the semifinals.
