Venus Williams limps her way through the rest of the match after injuring her right knee early on, but takes advantage of pig-headed shot selection and flurries of unforced errors by Giorgi in the 3rd set to win, 76(5) 46 76(6) in 3h17m in Birmingham. #tennis

That's very interesting. Have they broken up?
Could be like McCoco..not getting entry into the same tournaments bcos disparity in ranking...?

Kostyuk vs Potapova may finish just before the match would be called for darkness.
Potapova up 5-3 in the third and Kostyuk held to force her to serve it out at 5-4.

This will sting for a while - Emina Betkas celebrated victory vs Marino after hitting an ace at 5-4, 40-love in the third. But the chair called a let. Emina lost the match badly in a tiebreak. Had 5 match points in all.

She was a qualifier who had taken out #7 seed Zhang Shuai and was trying to make her 2nd straight quarterfinal on grass (both as a qualifier).

She should tell herself it's a blessing in disguise after playing more matches than she is used to - she could use some rest.

Didn't this happen to Serena once at the Aussie, in the 2015 final? She served an ace on championship point and it was called a let, and she just coolly served another ace. Vs Sharapova.

I texted condolensces and my thoughts on the blessing in disguise to a coach in Indy who knows Emina, and he wasn't nearly as sympathetic. "She's young and healthy and her job is to win tennis matches. She should be putting the hammer down. No winnie no money."

Another Venus miracle? She came back from the dead to force a third vs Ostapenko. Jelena was up a set and 5-3 and I think had match points. Venus won the set 7-5. I'm surprised Venus can even move after her 3-hour match, much less compete.
