now, as I feared, Cirstea has beaten Ostapenko.. well, well. Cirstea is certainly enjoying a resurgence.. wonder who/what is behind it..

both came to pass, in very different ways, I guess.. Cirstea is probably the most under-rated player in the world right now..

I won't go to the extreme that she is the most under-rated player right now. She had a good early season, and then went off the map.
Tommy Johansson is working with her now, and it has been a good partnership.
And Ostapenko: when she loses, it is usually because she keeps hitting balls at 100% on every shot. And somedays, they don't land in. And those days are not infrequent.

I can't keep track of Cirstea's comings and goings from relevance/dangerous status.ponchi101 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 06, 2023 4:46 pm I won't go to the extreme that she is the most under-rated player right now. She had a good early season, and then went off the map.

Cirstea has moved to a different level this year, rather consistently now.

I'm pleasantly surprised that both Vekic and Bencic won today. Both had tough opposition.

What kind of different level? I'm not sure what you mean. She had good tournaments in Miami, and Indian Wells, and won a 125 event in May but otherwise it's been first & second round loses

Fritz out to Ymer, the Younger, in five sets. Fritz let two sets to love.

If Rybakina survives one more round, her chances will increase significantly. This would mean that she's over that phase, associated with recovery from virus.

As with all tennis siblings- Mikael is to be known as the Good Ymer.skatingfan wrote: ↑Thu Jul 06, 2023 6:04 pm Fritz out to Ymer, the Younger, in five sets. Fritz let two sets to love.

This implies that I remember which Ymer is which - I only know he's the younger one cause they mentioned it in commentary during the match.
