by ashkor87 I wonder if Djoko will really play here..expect not. He doesn't believe in playing 250 level events, doesn't need match practice either..?

by ponchi101 Oh, he needs A LOT of practice. His perfect timing is not there anymore by default.
If he thinks he can get in shape by playing practice sets with Marko, got me some bad news for you, sunshine.

They will have to change balls every alternate game!

by ashkor87 I don't like this draw ...too many of my favorites meeting too early! Andreeva/Noskova, Kostyuk/Shnaider, Vika/osta..

by ashkor87 Vika has an utterly flawless record against Ostapenko..testament to the punishing second serve return of Azarenka, probably.

by ponchi101 Testament to the fact that Alona plays recklessly and Vika is a good athlete at getting balls back?

by ashkor87 Vika punishes second serves better than most

by mick1303 Big shutout to Jordan Thompson. He is second best to Berrettini in almost every facet of the game, except maybe volleying. But he hang in there and basically out-competed Matteo, who is himself no slouch in the mental department. So now JT wins matches on pure grit and belief that he belongs.

by meganfernandez Kyrgios could barely move - he looks out of shape, to me - and he still nearly beat Perricard. I only saw a dozen games but Perricard was dreadful off the ground. I've seen him hit better than that, but not yesterday. I think the scoreline was a testament to Perricard's deficiencies. Movement, too. He should serve and volley.

by ponchi101 Why would somebody with deficient movement serve and volley? You need to be feline-quick to serve and volley properly.

by meganfernandez
ponchi101 wrote: Tue Dec 31, 2024 7:13 pm Why would somebody with deficient movement serve and volley? You need to be feline-quick to serve and volley properly.
Isner wasn't quick but he S&V'd because it was his best chance.

Seems more realistic for GMP to develop forward exposition and a first volley than the side-to-side movement and ground strokes he's going to need to stay back, considering how far off he looks from competitive in those areas. And it would complement his serve and keep points short, for fewer injuries.

by ashkor87 very impressive win for Andreeva over Noskova.. the court appears on the slow side (compared with Auckland at least) and Andreeva was able to run down everything, opened up the court with lovely little angles and drop shots. Good omen for her. Jabeur next, whom she has beaten before..

by ponchi101 This time, the test is for Ons. Coming from all those injuries, against a player that is improving.

by mmmm8 I honestly had forgotten in the off-season that Reilly Opelka existed. Interesting loss for Djokovic

by ponchi101 On the one hand, it was only one break of serve in the second set.
On the other. Against a guy coming back from injury for almost two years. I think it looks bad for his Aussie campaign.

by ponchi101 What will be the longest rally in the Opelka/ Mpetshi match? 6 strokes?

by ashkor87 the 'other' Kudermetova is playing awfully well.. dont know much about here.. will she do well at the AO?
