by ashkor87 Good chance Machac will knock off Djokovic..
Kostyk is much better than when Badosa beat her last, could be a good one..I would bet on Kostyuk
Osaka-Bencic looks close but only if Osaka loses her head .Osaka is a class better than Bencic..also, is a bit further along on her comeback..
There are some nice doubles matches to see though..Siniakova and TT have a good team of opponents, Hsieh/Osta are also in action..

Osaka has played some great tennis this year and she is feeling confident. I think she will come through. Could knock off Gauff but I wouldn’t bet on it. Gauff is in top form right now.

Djokovic hasn’t looked as sharp as usual. Even footwork. An upset wouldn’t surprise me.

by ashkor87 Agree about Gauff. I think she is going to win this tournament..of course Saba has a chance to, as does Swiatek and so too Rybakjna

by ti-amie Siegemund down 1-6, 1-4 to Pavs...

Tauson putting up a good fight against Sabalenka in the first set.

Shnaider/Vekic in a first set tie break.

by Fastbackss Tauson served at 4-4. Very long game. Sabalenka broke.

Figured would be easy hold for the match but she was very "nervy" and was way more stressful than I anticipated

by ti-amie Shnaider vs Vekic is - tense

by jazzyg What an epic gag by Shnaider in the last four games after going up 5-3. She could not keep a ball close to the court. Strange.

And the announcers on ESPN+ are totally ignoring her collapse and acting like Vekic won it.

by ashkor87 Kostyuk seems to be coming apart mentally

more words of 'wisdom' from Steve Tignor! how many of these do you agree with?

by jazzyg I did not agree with his picking Osaka over Muchova, and he was right.

And this time?

by Suliso This time Tignor was right. Happy for Bencic (always liked her), but not at all happy that Naomi didn't last a full match.

by JTContinental What’s up with Sabalenka and the close sets? I haven’t watched her yet but I was assuming she would cruise through to the later stages. Is she playing a notch below usual or are opponents playing a notch above?

by ti-amie Gauff routined Leylah 6-4, 6-2 as expected.

Gauff has won 20 sets in a row dating back to the WTA Finals

by Suliso Gauff maybe the main title favorite, but also Fernandez is severely underpowered.

by jazzyg Sabalenka is better than Gauff. In my view it does not matter what their form is. Sabalenka is always the favorite when they meet.

When Sabalenka is at her top level, it does not matter what is Gauff's level. Nonetheless, the day form may vary. Gauff might just be "better tonight", as Pat Riley said.

by Suliso I'd not be so categorical. Sabalenka is in her prime years there as Gauff obviously not yet.

by ashkor87 Danilovic' easy power reminds me of Rybakina..she knocked me out of SP but I enjoyed watching her, so I came out even

If she had been well, Osaka would have won.

Gauff is 5-4 against Saba

by Owendonovan I sometimes feel Coco needs any top 5er to be a bit off for her to win. (provided she can serve well)

by jazzyg And Gauff beat her the last time they played.

Still does not change what I believe to be true. A win here would change my view.

by ponchi101 What happened in the Collins match? I did not see the match. But it seems the Aussie crowd is starting to get a reputation here. Bad behavior whenever a local is playing. And it has happened before (Medvedev's match of a few years ago).
I saw her victory celebration and it was indeed "rude". But I did not see the match so I wonder if it was appropriate given the circumstances.

by Owendonovan Begs the question of high a road you should take when faced with poor behavior directed at you.

by Fastbackss Novak liked what she did, so take that for what it's worth

Their H2H is 5-4 in favor of Gauff, but ok
