Not that I'm aware of, but it sure escalated quickly. I honestly thought Sakkari made too much of the lack of eye contact during the (admittedly brief) handshake and thought Putintseva's curtsy was then an understandable response given she was not in a happy mindset after losing. What came after that, however...

by ashkor87 Great win for Pegula...these faster courts suit her..maybe W will too

by skatingfan And the title drought continues for Swiatek.

by ashkor87 before we make too much of this, let us remember Pegula won Berlin last year .. didnt help her much at Wimbledon..

by ponchi101 Of course. Wimbledon is way more open than Homburg; we know that.
But we can say that she is playing well. No guarantees, but maybe she can make it to 4R.

by JTContinental Swiatek was apparently sobbing after losing this final.

by ponchi101 And Eala was crying during her RU speech at Eastbourne.
Let. The losing. Player. Leave. The. Court.
We are not going to be missing any monumental speech if we do that.

by ti-amie Game 11 of Pegula vs Swiatek was amazing.
Swiatek was dragging Pegula back and forth along and behind the baseline yet some how Pegula not only got every ball back but managed to get herself back. into position to push Iga way behind the baseline and off the court to get a winner. I hope someone on Reddit posts that point because that is where Pegula crushed Iga.

I saw some of Eala vs Joint and Eala had the match until she didn't. I think she got ahead of herself and thought she would win and started playing it safe. Joint kept playing and when Eala looked around she'd lost.

by ti-amie And r/tennis on Reddit comes through.

I disagree. Without the runners-up speech we would have missed out on this moment, and this was huge turning point in Andy Murray's career, and the public perception of him.

Point taken.

I always believed defense is more valuable than offense on a fast court.

by ponchi101 But you can see that the winners at W are usually attackers?
The defensive players that I can recall that won it, in the WTA, are Evert, and perhaps Conchita. The rest of the winners have been attackers: Martina, Steffi, Serena, Venus, Petra, BJK, Court. Even the recent crop tends to go more for attack (Rybakina, Vondrousova and Krejcikova).

I agree that defense on grass is an excellent tool; Borg proved that a long time ago, when the W courts were faster. But he was pretty much the exception.
