I think that happened because she finished with a win in Canada so no one thought about the wrist. The camera people focused in on the wrist several times during the match. I think if it wasn't the Open she would've (should've?) skipped this event.

Madison Keys crashed out to Renata Zarazua 7-6(10), 6-7(3),5-7 and now Svitolina is holding on by the skin of her teeth down 2-6, 1-5 to Anna Bondar.

Venus is playing pretty darn well.

The embarrassment was Kvitova. She screwed another player out of the tournament by playing when she was not remotely ready or in shape to play her final match.

I just saw that she won the second set 6-2.

Kvitova did a Clijsters...

I just feel she got her lifetime achievement wildcard already two years ago, but yeah, that was actually pretty impressive.

Hype is their oxygen. Let's be honest, we need some hype for energy. Sports fans are obsessed with racing ahead to see who's next, predict outcomes, etc.

In this case, Mboko said she had an MRI the morning of the Canada final and it didn't show anything broken or dislocated. Nothing to keep her from playing the final. It must have gotten worse afterward, and people didn't know because she's been off the court.

If Muchova could have made her go forward and backward more, I think it would have been an easier win. Venus's power and serve are still there, and the hunger and will, but she just can't move very well.

As of 10:43pm ET, Opelka/Alcaraz is the only match remaining.

Another finish after midnight in any case.
