Former #1's usually do this. They say that the players that cannot beat the top players are "not hungry". Are not putting in the effort. They "don't want it enough".
B.S. I don't think Zverev is not putting the effort; look at how he corrected that serve and dropped his DF's. I don't believe Fritz or Shelton are not working as hard as possible. Musetti went from that infamous "no mas" against Novak to become a solid top 10 player.

The very top players simply have some genes the others don't. I never believed that Roddick was not working as hard as possible. Or Ferrer. But the top 3 just had some extra chromosome somewhere. That was the simple difference.

I think they both easily challenge Novak. There'll be a Johanssen here and there, but the rest go to them. No one else seems near them, except Shelton on a good day. There's 24 slams in the next 6 years, That makes them 28 and 30, they have at least 4 more good years each, Alcaraz more, so another 16. Healthy, they're both looking at 40 slams in the next 10 years. Their drive to improve seems a bit higher.
