by Oploskoffie The first week is done, and after 12 contestants picked 44 different players and three tournaments yielded eight unseeded semifinalists, we have some huge differences between first and last placed!!

The week 1 high scorer, and one of several people with Cirstea on their team was Jeff from TX; well done! :D Special mention for ponchi for being the only one to give Katie Boulter a chance which has kept him within good distance of the top spots.

We move on to Doha and another Saturday final and another Sunday trade deadline!

by Oploskoffie Another fascinating week of tennis with (rather) varying results for all involved! :?

Well done to this week's high scores New England Nitemare who moves up from seventh to third! :D Meanwhile, Jeff from TX stays in the lead and tenedab just hangs on to second place!

Like most of this week's high(er) scorers, having Muchova on the team turned out to be a blessing. Others were left to rue having or adding Gauff and Anisimova to their team. That said: they're both in the draw for the next tournament; who dares to keep them? ;)

If you want to trade, you can do so up until Sunday, February 15, 11 AM Dubai time!

by ponchi101 I am keeping Anisimova, especially since Sabalenka is not playing. High risk because Amanda is insane, but she can win it.
My question is Navarro.

by ashkor87 The next leg is tricky especially since we don't know for sure who is actually playing Merida, and this game treats big and small tournaments pretty much the same ..that is one flaw that should be fixed.

by texasniteowl bwahahahaha! 38 pts! you are all not welcome!

I'm doubling down though. saving most of my trades to see if I can make a run next week. So Gauff? Anisimova? I'm keeping them! So watch out for me to come dead last next week too!

Not sure what you mean by not sure who's playing Merdia...I see a list on the WTA site.

I think it's just part of how the contest is intentionally scored and extra level of strategy - do you use the trades in the big tournaments, or save them for the last week hoping for someone to come through for you? And can you even afford to wait that long?

If the last week was worth way less points it would be barely be worth including at all.

This contest at least is not meant to reflect the level of each tournament (although some contests do.)

I'm still stunned I somehow outscored two people this week. I guess a lot of 7's and 3's is better than less!

by ashkor87 You guys do a fantastic job running these contests so it would be churlish of me to criticize any of them, so I wont.

But why this comment?
Hey. There is a difference between criticizing, criticizing constructively and suggestions. If you believe something can be improved, no harm in saying so.
And, yes. The contests' staff crew does a hell of a job. I did not know how much work they put into these contests until I started running TAT2.0. If the site generated profits, they should get 80% of them.

by Oploskoffie And we have the next twist in this tale: Rybakina retires early in the third set against Ruzic :o

by ptmcmahon Quite the war of ... not sure if attrition right word for it :)

by ponchi101 I should have known better. She will probably will not win squat for the rest of the year.

by ptmcmahon Well that's probably a little extreme :)

But in general I find it best to avoid Slam winners right after slams for smaller events. No actual data on it, just a gut feeling.

Not like who I am picking is doing any better (hello Paolini!) although this week it was more out of desparation

by ponchi101 Your POST SLAM blues theory is sound. But I thought that, since she won the YEC and then went to win the Aussie, maybe she would be an exception.

by tenedab Dubai is weird. There are 14 withdrawals/retirements so far. So Rybakina just follows the trend :)

In my head it's more expect Post Slam blues for smaller Non Slam tournaments...especially if it's a week or two after the Slam. Long break after YEC.

by Oploskoffie Well then: that is week 3 over and done. On average, this was a better scoring week than the previous one: 135 avg. for week 2 vs. 152 avg. for week 3. And this time two people managed to pass the 200 points barrier!

In the words of this week's highest scorer: "...a huge turnaround from last week.." and so it was. Making the jump from 38 points in week 2 to 229 in week 3 should be cause for some celebration for texasniteowl :D In second place for the week, just five points behind, is wolfy333.

In the overall standings tenedab has slipped out of the top-3 (for now ;)) with wolfy333 taking the second spot! Still in the lead, as was the case after the first and second week, is Jeff from TX! :D

The final week starts tomorrow in Merida and Austin with a 11 AM (local time) deadline for (probably) both. Got any trades left to make? Get 'm in a.s.a.p.!!
