Kasatkina and Bejlek also gave wos...wonder what is going on! They both did well in the previous weeks so maybe just wear and tear...but wta need to figure it out and do something better than threatening players...

Coco unimpressive in win over a compromised Kalinskaya, Jovic impressive against Shnaider...

Re: WTA 1000 Dubai 2/15 - 2/21 2026
There is nothing you can do about these retirements. The top players make enough money to skip whatever they want. Anybody making 3rd round at Doha made enough money to skip Dubai comfortably and fly back to California, to get ready for IW.
But if you cut down the number of tournaments, the players ranked 50 and below then start suffering. So, you can't have a laid back schedule.
And if you threaten any player with a major fine/penalty (DQ from the next slam) they will produce a doctor's note saying they are injured.
Look at the NBA. The amount of obvious tanking is so intense that even the commissioner is fining teams left and right. And nothing is happening.
So, it is not the WTA/ATP. It is just that professional sports have become so rich that the incentives to play are really no longer there.
