The gay club shooting suspect evaded Colorado's red flag gun law

An online court records search did not turn up any formal charges filed against Aldrich in last year's case. And in an update on a story on the bomb threat, The Gazette newspaper of Colorado Springs reported that prosecutors did not pursue any charges in the case and that records were sealed.

The Gazette also reported Sunday that it got a call from Aldrich in August asking that it remove a story about the incident.

"There is absolutely nothing there, the case was dropped, and I'm asking you either remove or update the story," Aldrich said in a voice message to an editor. "The entire case was dismissed."

A spokesperson for the district attorney's office, Howard Black, declined to comment on whether any charges were pursued. He said the shooting investigation will also include a study of the bomb threat.

"There will be no additional information released at this time," Black said. "These are still investigative questions."

COLORADO SPRINGS — Richard M. Fierro said he was at a table in Club Q with his wife, daughter and friends on Saturday, watching a drag show, when the sudden flash of gunfire ripped across the nightclub. His instincts from four combat deployments as an Army officer in Iraq and Afghanistan instantly kicked in. Fight back, he told himself.

In an interview at his house, where his wife and daughter were still recovering from injuries, Mr. Fierro, 45, who left the Army in 2013 as a major, according to military records, described charging through the chaos at the club, tackling the gunman and beating him bloody with the gunman’s own gun.

“I don’t know exactly what I did, I just went into combat mode,” Mr. Fierro said, shaking his head. “I just know I have to kill this guy before he kills us.”

The authorities are holding Anderson Lee Aldrich, 22, on charges of killing five people, and say that 18 more people were injured in a rampage at the club that lasted only a few minutes. The death toll could have been much higher, officials said on Sunday, if patrons of the bar had not stopped the gunman.

Mr. Fierro, who owns a local brewery, said that on combat deployments in the Army, he had been shot at and had seen roadside bombs shred trucks in his platoon. His record shows that he was awarded the Bronze Star twice. The experiences of combat still haunt him, he said, and the psychological and physical toll of the deployments were why he left the Army.

He said he never thought he would have to deal with that kind of violence at home.

“I was done with war,” he said.

I have to find the first hand report someone posted yesterday about what happened during that first incident where instead of getting him the mental health help he needed - who builds a bomb to blow up their mother - the grandfather got him off and all news reports were wiped. They're reposting it "gleefully" because it shows the hypocrisy of the MAGATs. I didn't mean to imply that they're celebrating what happened.

I'm simply saying that for anyone to take any satisfaction in the hypocrisy, etc., or to find any 'glee' or happiness in the fact that this wasn't surprising, or that it's consistent with the way that the MAGA contingent exist, or within any other element of this event, is very sad - and quite selfish.

I normally wouldn't do this but one man, suffering from PTSD, did what all those armed to the teeth cops in Uvalde couldn't/wouldn't do.

There is some symbology there.

This man's picture was up online in a matter of minutes. There are pictures of his home. I have yet to see the picture of the Colorado Springs shooter publicized like that. I've seen pictures but none were from MSM.

The soft light of the picture is borderline angelic. A few cherubs around her would have been a nice touch.
