Maybe but we must allow for differences in body types...TT, Ostapenko et al, may be perfectly fit for all we know..she doesn't seem to run out of breath nor does she decline to chase balls, so I think she is ok...definitely a threat to win on clay...

Thank god someone finally mentioned it. She is overweight, and it must inhibit her in some way. Does anyone ever run her side to side and try to make her winded or at least force her to hit when she is out of position? I get that she is still in decent shape - she's winning matches at the highest level - but surely she would do even better with optimum fitness. I don't understand why a professional athlete would let their fitness slip so much. It's one think they can totally control.
If she loses weight she might gain more endurance, but may also lose a bit of weight on her "punches" (using boxing analogy). And looking at her mentality she'd definitely prefers KOs over decisions ))

I think even allowing for body type, she is carrying quite a bit of extra weight. It's objective truth that she is winning matches at her current fitness level, but I have a hard time believing that better fitness wouldn't help her overall. She was still hitting pretty hard when she was fitter.

Starting with her service game to win the match, Kalinina lost 12 straight points to lose the set.
That was sad.

Fleeting sadness, followed by the thrill of victory: 7-5, 5-7, 6-2.

They're insisting that the Ostapenko/Rybakina match is in a "rain delay". TC is replaying Kalinina vs Kudermetova right now.

It was an impressive turnaround. I thought she would crumble.

@WTA Yea it looks like Ostapenko said something to Rybakina after she (Penko) walked past the chair. Rybakina shook hands with the ChUmp and pointed ChUmp to Ostapenko and said "please" #tennis #wta

Ostapenko did not want play stopped the first time and was at one point refusing to leave the court.

Fans say this happened too.
Vukov said before that Jelena called Elena a f***ing b**ch during the earlier rain delay so Elena really put her in her place there.

Alona flies under the radar a lot, but she does get into a few quarrels a year. Nothing major so far but... sometimes it seems funny.

Certainly hasn't made a single kit look good on her. :bananas:
