The joke in the US is that orthopedic surgeons love Pickleball...because of all the injuries

the only initial problem was the bounce is so low.. we ended up waiting for the ball to come to us, it never did...

The bounce and slower pace of the ball does take some time to get used to.

Ah, the curse of age. It is the one thing that really tells you how old you are. In the past, one hour of hard court tennis was the same as one hour on clay. Now the recovery of one hour of playing on hards takes double than the hour on clay.
It was one of the things that I really liked about har tru: so much softer on the knees.

Played yesterday and it was a strange session: played well for 20 minutes. Water break. The next 20 were uneven; went through a big period in which I could not get the ball over the net. I was hitting well but everything was hitting the tape. Next water break, came back, and decided just to blast the ball. Not worry about form. I got a few BH's in that were not that bad.
I think it was that the balls were already pretty worn out, and I need to replace my grips. I am picky about that.

how many people here use that vibration dampener? I dont.. I think it is silly and of no use, but everyone else at the court uses them.

I use them. It makes the bed string feel softer.
But it is just a matter of taste. Put one on, hit for a few minutes, and then decide. It is not as if the difference will be that great.

I have used one for so long it feels bizarre without. I tend to try every time I get a new racquet but revert to using one

Went to train today.
At the club, there was this guy also training. This guy was crushing the ball: huge forehand, big windup. Proper technique: an extreme western grip, good shoulder rotation, good knee bend. The coach had set up five cones on each corner, for him to aim at them.
He was maybe getting 1 out of every 5 balls in. I don't mean hitting the cones: getting the ball IN the court. Almost all his balls were sailing long or into the net.
And there was no correction from him. He just kept hitting the same balls out, again and again.
Some people don't get it. If the ball does not land in, everything else you do is meaningless.

true, but it depends on how old he is.. my dad (my first and only coach) always encouraged me to hit out, when I was maybe 12 years old, control will come later, he said..

He was maybe in his early 20's.
Indeed, you need to start hitting out with power early on or you will never be able to generate it later in life. That is one of my many issues; I never hit out and now, when older, I simply do not have the power.
But this guy already has power. As I said, he was crushing the ball. But his control was null.

I now play only 4 days a week, because 2 days go to pickleball! with my wife, why? because tennis is not easy for her to play with us men, we are just too big and strong, and there is hardly any woman playing tennis here, of her age. This is a big big advantage pickleball has over tennis.

Both Padel and Pickleball are easier.
Can't afford to play tennis 4 times a week. I envy you.

Nobody came to play today so I set up my mobile as a video recorder on a selfie stick and hit a hundred serves.. my wife has been telling me my toss is too low, the videos support that - I must have gotten lazy as I got older.. working on that now.
