I'm shocked that Pliskova went out early since she's been playing pretty well this season, especially to a player you'd expect her to beat wherever. I set my expectations very low for Karolina at all times, but Rome is damn near her best tournament on tour for reasons unknown, so this is surprising from her.

Petra Martic was up 4-1 in the first set and dropped it to MCOS losing the match 6-4, 6-2.

Kenin took the first set from Sabalenka 7-6(4) and is up 2-1 on serve in the second set.

Townsend def Pegula 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. Apparently the h2h is in Taylor's favor?

I thought Sonya was going to blow it, when those set points just kept going away I thought it was over and thought maybe that kind of crushing loss might doom the rest of her year. So good on her for getting through that set. I hope she enjoys this win, but figures out a way to come back with the same intensity for her next match. She's had some impressive showings this year, but she's rarely followed them up with a win.

I don't remember much about Pegula as a junior, but I would guess Taylor might be very familiar with her game going back a long way. She's older than Taylor, but not by much and they are friends off court and have been for awhile. Taylor attended Jessie's wedding.

Wide open bottom draw. Kenin and Osorio can gain points there and see if they can return to previous spots in the rankings.

Badosa versus Jebeur is a good one too. on real, slow, red clay, Badosa shuld win.. let us see what happens.. her first round didnt inspire confidence. I am not yet convinced of Jabeur's red clay credentials- Madrid last year was a great result but she didnt do much at RG after that, becausse Madrid is different, anyway. .. . Jabeur's game is better suited to grass and hard court..same with Sinner - he needs a faster surface, I cant visualize him winning here, nor Medvedev of course..
ponchi101 wrote: Thu May 11, 2023 3:29 pm Well, "first real" is a bit too much, Ashkor. Sure, Madrid seems to be different because the results say so, but it is still played on clay. The sliding and footing remain the same.
Swiatek playing well here will be no news. Sabalenka getting far may be. Alcaraz winning is the default mode.
You don't think that Jabeur's trick shots and movement are good on clay? She moves well, has a good drop shot, can play the long rallies. If she is not injured, I think she can be a factor.
Reserved forecasts, bit we got it. Sabalenka out, together with Pegula. We will have to wait and see who comes out from the bottom half.

José Morgado 🤖
@josemorgado@sportsbots.xyz
Matteo Arnaldi with a first career win in Rome, beating 2020 runner up Schwartzman 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. Having a great clay court season.

El Peque played much better than in recent matches, still not enough. Will need to defend his R16 points at Roland Garros to stay... on top 100...
