I have words. Appalling and ghastly for starters.

Belinda out of practice and form supposedly. About to repeat her best ever Wimbledon result anyway. Draw has been relatively kind.

AS always, with our favorites, tennis results giveth and taketh away. Rajeev and Joe lose 6-4 in the third. (I was expecting them to lose at any point at Wimbledon.) This whole year has been, at least relatively speaking, a considerable slump for them. Quite sad about this, TBH. With Rajeev heading to AARP-status, not sure if they can play top tennis again. But, they've won Slams, an ATP Championship, and a bunch of top tournaments. WAY more than I had any right to expect as a fan.

Rublev was down a double break in the third, but comes back to win the set. He does appear to have some kind of injury though.

Bublik maybe better suited for grass than Rublev, but Rublev has more Grand Slam success to his credit and overall better player. We just saw how Mannarino beat Medvedev in Rosmalen but couldn't replicate the same in London. Those top 10 players are there for a reason. But Bublik has that talent. Maybe lesser version of Kyrgios so to speak. So he will have his chances.meganfernandez wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2023 4:19 pmHappy for him and would love to see him play Djokovic in the quarters. Bublik has only dropped one set, the first one of R1, tiebreak.

It's not the first time when tinkering with the schedule, courts assignments, etc to give home favorite and extra advantage bites perpetrators in their behind. Remember Roland Garros dragging Monfils-Fognini match late into the night when the lightning was not suitable for night play in hopes that Monfils will carry the momentum? It also did not end well for them.

Delaying the finish of the match until today was never to Murray's advantage.

Bublik has always seemed to me to be one of those players that, if he were to put a bit more effort, would be at the top. All the strokes are super solid, the physique is there.mick1303 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2023 6:47 pmBublik maybe better suited for grass than Rublev, but Rublev has more Grand Slam success to his credit and overall better player. But he simply seems to be happy doing what he does.

Good impressive wins by Svitolina over Kenin, and Keys. Bencic and Andreescu too..feels like 2018 or something...
Alcaraz keeps us up to date, of course..!
Pegula looking good too..she usually does, of course..only a tier 1 player can beat her, and she hasn't run into one yet...

What would be the biggest surprise so far? Ruud is not; he himself has said he is no good on grass. Garcia today? She has been playing very low quality tennis during this year.
Coco? Kenin is a former slam champ, so I say that, although not expected, is not terribly surprising.
A very uneventful week, so far.

Voundrousova is the real revelation thus far. She is beating people she had no business to beat (vekic) and on a surface doesn't suit her game ..

But the win over Linette was impressive. Now for the other Pole! Not such a great draw...

His interview on Tennis Channel was cringe-worthy. We love honesty and all that. But praying for opponent giving him walkover. Boo, Bublik.ponchi101 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2023 8:24 pmBublik has always seemed to me to be one of those players that, if he were to put a bit more effort, would be at the top.
