I had not heard of Alex Michelsen before and saw he was in the QF of Newport, so I looked him up. He's 18 and has made 5 ITF finals this year, winning 2 titles.
We saw him play in Chicago- which he won, including beating Nishikori 6-1 in the third in the QF. Solid, 6'4", all-court player, has potential, needs to work on his backhand. Strangely enough, there were a few solid 18 year old (or so) Americans- our Very Own Village of the Damned. After he won, we referred to Michelsen as The New Ben Shelton. (I know, I know- Ben who? ) But, who knows?
