by Deuce Matches to watch tomorrow...

Korda-Moutet

Sorribes-Tormo - Kostyuk

Bencic - Anisimova

by ti-amie For me Badosa vs Trevisan

Shapo vs Kwon. Kwon is one of the players I watch when I can

Karatsev vs McDonald

Pera vs Pegula

Sonego vs Otte

I'll be doing a lot of skipping around

by ponchi101 No early L. American players, so I might get to see somebody I like, not playing in a court by the beach.
I will stick with Badosa.

by ti-amie Badosa with the heavy taping on her upper right thigh.

by ponchi101 Plus some more tape on her shoulder.
Time fort somebody to become a spokesperson for Kinesio tape. At least get a discount.

Yeah she got it wrapped in her last match

Definitely doesn't seem to be bothering her one bit. She cruised 6-0 in that 1st set. Easy Breezy!!

by ti-amie Trevisan got herself on the board to open the second set. The long rallies seem to be working well for her.

by ponchi101 Tan is actually playing a very smart game. She is giving Svitolina no pace and no direction. And Svitolina has nothing to work with. Landing at least 2 shots a game into the net.
Why am I getting that feeling that Elina will be out in about 40 minutes?

by jazzyg i'm definitely looking forward to my man Karatsev's match. Dude hit 82 winners in the first round .. but also had 102 unforced errors. I've been following tennis for a long time and can't recall a player reaching triple digits in unforced errors.

If he's spent from winning that tournament last week and playing a long five-setter, Mackie McDonald can beat him. If the first round was a blip, he will destroy McDonald, hitting winners at will.

by ponchi101 Svitolina's career summarized in one set. Can't pass her opponent, and can't move her around. That was one horrible set of tennis.

I haven't seen it all, but Elina had match point in the 2nd set and should've been able to close it out. Obviously very bad that she didn't, but can't pretend like she didn't get herself into a winning position in that set.

by ti-amie Sonego is playing Otte well. He won the second set 6-2 and is up 3-1 in the third.

by ponchi101 @ JazzNu. She did. But the barrage of unforced errors is incredible. She has missed at least 3 swinging volleys by hitting them out of the court, and when she was serving for the match at 5-4, missed two FH's that were sitting right there. And Tan is looking at her like "you win it", and daring her.

by jazzyg Opelka got all six 1st serves in during his opening game and still got broken by Koepfer.

by ti-amie Tan just got her calf taped. Not kinesio but heavily taped. She is in visible pain/discomfort.

by ti-amie I think her coach is telling her to retire. The chair is sympathetic as well. So sorry for her having to retire at 1-5 in the third.

by ti-amie Tan had to be wheeled off the court.

by martini4me That was a tough to watch finish. On the 4-1 changeover, Tan had her left calf taped. By the end of the next game, she couldn't move any more--she'd return the serve but then just watched Svitolina's next ball land in the court.
After her first service attempt (a let), it appeared that now her right calf was also a problem (cramp? compensation injury). She grimaced in pain, then predictably tried an underhand serve (fault). More grimacing, she was now so distraught that she switched sides to serve, before the chair umpire reminded her that she still had a second serve on the deuce side. After another underarm serve fault, we saw someone in the crowd (coach? mom?) signalling her to stop. She still moved over to the ad side to serve, but then the umpire advised her that she was just risking doing more damage. There was obviously no chance of her winning any more, and no one could find fault with her for retiring in the condition she was in.

by JazzNU Pegula really got lucky in the first set that Pera really fell apart after a hot start. Pegula's in control now since Pera still hasn't regained her earlier form.

Guess you were right about his return

I feel like someone hit 100 UFEs in a match in the last few years. I wanna say it was a best of three match, too - maybe Sabalenka. And the player still won. It’s ringing a bell.

by martini4me That 3-3 game in the second set was fairly ridiculous. Kwon and Shapovalov both giving very loud "Come on"' s after every point they won. It was like a competition for who could yell loudest.

by ashkor87 Badosa and Vika looking very good...

by ashkor87 Looking forward to Bencic -Anisimova...love both of them, too bad one of them has to lose...anisimova with her flat, hard shots, Bencic with her subtle court positioning...this time, I am expecting Anisimova to win

by ti-amie I watched a bit of Berretini vs Kozlov and now I'm back to Kwon vs Shapovalov

by martini4me Shapovalov and Kwon into a second tiebreaker. Shapo won the first 8-6.

I don't think I knew that you could hit the ball while standing on the opposite side of the court. And I'm sure that I've never seen that before. I've seen people reach over and hit it back, or hit it and then run through to the other side of the court, but this was a first for me. :)

Kevin

by ashkor87 There ought to be a ban on both players wearing the same outfit! Anisimova-Bencic

by ashkor87 Bencic struggling physically...hasn't fully recovered i think

by JazzNU Excellent match from Kwon, a shame he couldn't pull the upset over Shapovalov. Denis can really get incredibly undisciplined when he's frustrated, I thought he'd have matured out of that by now. He made that harder than was necessary by not getting returns or easy second shots even in play at times to put more pressure on Kwon.

Thoroughly enjoyed the Aussie team that called the match. Not sure about the one guy's name, but from what was said, apparently the pro is Roger Rasheed, who I didn't realize did TV commentary.

by Liamvalid The shock of the day for me-Jo Konta in the studio for Eurosport, and she is looking pretty stylish! Retirement must suit her, she is looking happy, healthy and pretty gorgeous if I may say

Indeed. Not only losing to Mannarino, but by that score.

by mick1303 Was watching extended highlights of this match - still can't pinpoint exact reason. Looks like sudden loss of confidence. As if he expected the opponent just to fold because of lower ranking and when this did not happened - was out of sorts.
