the prediction on the tennis site is 58.5% gauff - roughly correct, I would say. Analytics is sometimes not too way off..

That last part surprised me.

by ponchi101 Keys' game is suitable for everything. When the balls are landing in.
it is that sooner or later she can't keep the balls in. But her strokes are so excellent.

by ashkor87 Yes but she doesn't always get in position..footwork isn't world-class, to say the least

didnt surprise me at all.. Pegula is simply another of those somewhat over-rated players.. it is not that Coco is a Wimbledon champion, it is just that there is nothing that great about Pegula's game! But of course, most people here would disagree - that is fine.. I hope it is ok with people on this site if I say what I think.
No disrespect intednded to Pegula - she is a very good, solid Tier 2 player, just that she is not a Tier 1 player or even close (which Kvitova, Ostapenko, Jabeur are).. I repeat what I said earlier on another board - Pegula is comparable to Bencic, only slightly inferior to her. Alexandrova is better. Again, my estimate, people should not feel affronted.

by JTContinental I'm not affronted, but I don't think anything that you wrote above is true, except about Kvitova being top tier

Ok, good, let us agree to disagree..and let the results speak.

by ashkor87 good win for Keys over Gauff, unexpected.. but she is a former champion here, after all..

by ashkor87 Swiatek withdraws due to illness! what IS this virus going around and laying tennis players low?

What a nice result - win or lose - first tour final & he will crack the top 50 in the rankings.

by nelslus Eubanks apparently also saved and lost multiple match points before finally pulling this match out. I found this out from viewing some highlights from YouTube. LOL, I had rooted for Shelton to beat Eubanks. But, very happy for Eubanks with his recent excellent results.

by jazzyg Harris had three matches points at 0-40 before the tiebreak and two match points in the tiebreak, but the latter two came on Eubanks' serve. On the first one, his backhand passing shot hit the tape. If it had gone over, Eubanks was there but would have needed to execute a tough volley.

for those who cannot see the tennis channel etc... please look at what happens at 3-3 in the second set as a sample.. what I have been saying.. Coco doesnt give herself room on the forehand, and drops the ball short, which Keys pounces on and kills. It is not the UFEs to worry about, it is these short balls - lollipops, that lets the opponent hit a winner.. she needs to fix that.

by meganfernandez Woke up to Madison leading a set and 5-2, but Kasatkina up 30-love in that game. Figured I had time to fire up my laptop and catch the end to see Madison win the title. She promptly lost four games. She managed to break to take the set to a tiebreak, though.

Madison won a 31-shot rally on her 5th or 6th match point.

by ponchi101 31-shot rally, in grass.

Very good point. No one even thought about chipping and charging. But they were both playing it safe. It was like 14-13 in the TB.

Also, how many times has Keys been able to hit 15 shots without making an error? Most of the rally was BH to BH. She finally got a few FHs and took control of it with a crosscourt put-away.

That. This is the reason I think she has never won a big one. Her strokes are so beautiful but her margin of error is almost not there. When the ball lands in, it is a gorgeous stroke. But she can also miss a shot by feet.

Yeah, and I don't know if she's not patient enough or loses concentration or tightens up when she has the open court. She should be a Slam winner by now.

by jazzyg Keys is better on hard courts than grass, where the lower bounce hurts her at times and her lack of athleticism compared to other elite players hurts her (although her movement is underrated when she's healthy), but I agree she should already be a Slam winner. I don't see it happening at Wimbledon, but it's still possible on hard courts if she can stay healthy for any period of time and get the confidence of winning matches consistently.

She was the best player at the 2017 U.S. Open, but Stephens played an incredible match in the final and Keys panicked as a result. She hasn't come close since then, but there is still time.

by ponchi101 If Lindsey could win slams with that movement, Maddie can win them too. I see both of them as so similar.
Agree on the grass issue, though. I say she should be a truly dominant force on hard courts, where she can get a good grip under her feet.

by skatingfan She's 28 - the window is closing.

by ponchi101 I don't think it is about age. That is one of two things that I don't think can be taught: CONTROL and POWER come with the genetics. You can work a lot on them, and get better, but there is a ceiling.
See Laconte, Henri. He just could not reign in that power to the centimeter.

I just meant that very few people over the age of 28 win a major for the first time.

by ashkor87 Agree about Keys being better on hard courts but I was not at all surprised Sloane beat her .defense matters a lot on fast courts, and Keys is weak in that area..on a slower court, keys has the power to blow even Sloane away but on a fast court, movement matters more..
