by skatingfan Heaven forbid they start the two main courts early to get extra matches in.

by ponchi101 Centre court cannot be pummeled too much or they will have a sandlot to play on the final weekend.

by JTContinental omg it's raining

I thought I'd catch some before work, instead had to employ the mute button as the commentary was too inane.

Now they finally put a match on replay - and it's Murray's which we already established was boring.

Good thing it's time for work

by texasniteowl and already, another rain delay. Tiafoe/Wu are at 2-2.

by dave g Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

This really does make a mess of running a survivor draw pool.

by ashkor87 Sakkari making light work of Kostyuk...BHM struggling against Putintseva...both a bit surprising....

by texasniteowl I know we all know this, but they just said it as a throwaway comment and it really is crazy amazing that since 2003, only 4 men have won Wimbledon. In contrast, from 1982-2002, there were 11 different winners. It's just another one of those things that I don't expect to ever see again in my lifetime.

by ashkor87 It shows how hard it is to win Wimbledon...it is a bit unique...even on the women's side, it has seldom been won by a 'nobody - Wimbledon champions in the past several years have either won a major already or have gone on to win another.. only Bartoli is an exception, and she retired almost immediately...

by mick1303 How is it that play is interrupted in ALL matches, if they have two courts under the roofs?

by ashkor87 They didn't start under the roof so have to stop to put the roof on

by Suliso Kostyuk over Sakkari might end up being the right call.

Even more so when you consider that two of those 4 players won the event twice each - two players have won 15 of the past 19 editions of the tournament.

And now Sakkari is close to losing, and BHM is close to winning.

by ashkor87 Well, @meganfernandez and I have given up on Sakkari..trying understand her, I mean.

We'll be much happier this way. :)

by meganfernandez Do postponed matches have to resume on the same court? Is that why matches postponed at the end of Monday weren't finished Tuesday before new matches were started? In other words, why didn't Fritz/Hanfmann have priority over every other match yesterday?

by skatingfan

They don't usually put the suspended match on first. If you think about it those players were playing until after 9pm on Monday evening, and probably didn't get to bed until close to midnight, so they were on 2nd on every court yesterday, and yes the preference is that the match resume on the same court.

by skatingfan Also, it seems that the rain is moving back in. Renee Stubbs mentioned in commentary that the grounds crews were getting ready to cover the courts again.

by Suliso No problems for Swiatek and Ostapenko looking good too.

by skatingfan Just noticed that all the 2nd round matches on the outer courts, and the too be assigned list have now been cancelled for the day. Good news is that it looks like they might be able to add 2 matches to Centre Court at the right that the top players are winning so far.

by ponchi101 Azarenka/Podoroska, with plenty of players in the SP, has been cancelled.

Bautista Agut losses in 5.

Uhm... I won't. I have Pliskova for day 2 and she is going down meekly.

by Suliso Me too... :(

by Suliso Never heard of her today's opponent...

by ponchi101 Reason I picked her. I know Karo is no longer a top player, but 2-6 against a player ranked 225... Pretty bad.

by Owendonovan Borna Coric seems to have fully committed to having a Richard Gasquet like career, always in the mix, but not gonna win.

....My pick, too. THANK you, Ponchi and Suliso. :gorgeous:

....This is her first win at a Slam- and she's 28 years old. :gorgeous: :gorgeous:

....I at LEAST thought that this was the chick who played with Novak at the Olympics- where Novak bailed out with the bronze medal mixed match. But, nope. That was Nina Stojanović. :gorgeous: :gorgeous: :gorgeous: :gorgeous:

by ti-amie Kvitova vs Paolini now on Centre Court. Petra is up 5-4 first set.

by ti-amie No one here watched Thiem vs Tsitsipas? The fourth and fifth sets were pretty good with Stefanos winning it 3-6, 7-6(1), 6-2, 6-7(5), 7-6(8)

I watched the last few games and 5th set tiebreaker. Thiem yet again blows a great opportunity. He had the chance to go up a match point in the 5th set tiebreaker- and helplessly dumped a short forehand into the net. Saved one match point- then, back to errors. WAY too many heartbreaking losses for Thiem.

....However.....YAY BEN AND CHRIS!!!!! :yahoo:

by ti-amie Paolini forcing Kvitova into a TB to decide the second set and possibly the match.

ti-amie wrote: Wed Jul 05, 2023 8:27 pm Paolini forcing Kvitova into a TB to decide the second set and possibly the match.
AND of course, after almost coming back from an 0-5 deficit in the tiebreaker, it's on to the third set.

LOL, I should be used to this by now. BUT- of course, Petra plays very well at regular tour events, and then c r a p at Slams- AND on Center Court. UGGGHHHH. :gorgeous:

by ti-amie Paolini takes the second set 7-6(5). Kvitova had 19 UFE's to 9 for Paolini in the second set.

by nelslus FORTUNATELY, like LAST year's 1R match, Petra wins this match 6-1 in the third. LOL, since we saw Paolini in Chicago, and from last year's Wimbledon 1R match, I now always call Petra's opponent today Little Fat Face. The pest of it all. :gorgeous:

by ponchi101 6-1 in the third. No problems.

PFFFFT on this. It was far tougher watching this struggle. PLUS....NO PROBLEMS you say?!?!? :freaking: :gorgeous:

Meanwhile, poor Cressy so far! His ranking is now in triple digits. Had opportunities to win the third set tiebreaker, and he saved a few set points. NOW to the 4th set. I am assuming they'll stop before 11 p.m., unless Wimbledon got some kind of royal dispensation to play on if Cressy wins the 4th somehow.

by ti-amie I watch Paolini a lot and welcomed her winning the second set but as soon as Petra took that break I knew Little Jasmine's day was over. She played well though. I'm not sure if the coach is new or not but she played much better tennis than she usually does.

....WELL....At least TWO of us in here are true tennis fans!! :gorgeous: = me :gorgeous: = ti-amie.

by atlpam In typical Krecjikova fashion, she takes a medical up 6-5 in the second set with Heather Watson playing with some momentum about to serve to take it to a tiebreak - basically ices her out for her final service game.

by nelslus What is pretty maddening is, Djere is 99.99% of the time serving wide and on the diagonal to lefty Cressy's backhand- and Cressy just isn't fully invested in preparing for this.

I didn't know this- didn't watch any of this match. Over and over again she does this. This kind of c r a p has gotta be addressed once and for all (many of us have said, over and over again).

Echoes of Mugu telling her "So unprofessional" during her RG run (Krejcikova's).
Yep, you want me to tell you about her sponsors? :
🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗

by nelslus UGGGGGHHHHH. Crucial double faults in the third and fourth set tiebreakers led to Cressy's defeat. Cressy had one set point in the fourth set tiebreaker, but overplayed his return out on a very good (but returnable) second serve.

by ti-amie I wasn't able to watch much of the final set because the complete OoP for tomorrow came out. Cressy did stay on the court a long time after the match was over though.

I've been unable to become a fan because every time I see her I think she looks like a completely different person. I can't tell you what she looks like, it's weird.
