by ashkor87 Coco has a nice easy path to the semis, where she will meet Andreeva (i project)..Sabalenka vs Ostapenko will be the other semi,(I expect)
by ti-amie The thing with the WTA is that anyone can beat anyone on any given day. The two top seeds have "easy" draws but ya never know.
The ATP is becoming more like the WTA in this regard though.
by Suliso No way Ostapenko will reach SF's. R3 max and R1 a possibility.

With her record at RG, very possible. But I only want her to reach far enough until she meets Iga.
(Won't happen, I know).
by JTContinental Paolini has the toughest draw to the semis, and I think Iga will ultimately factor in more than we think at the moment.
by ponchi101 Iga gets Sramkova, maybe Raducanu and then maybe Kostyuk. No giants there, but Kostyuk may beat her.
Then whomever survives from a quarter where you have Alona (who may be out by R1) and Rybakina, who is on her way out too.
And then, most probably Paolini or, if not, Svitolina.
In the last years, R4 would have been assured. So now, she has those 4 rounds to get her game back before she has to deal with anything remotely deemed difficult.
by ashkor87 Heck, Raducanu may beat her!

You couldn't resist... Congratulations, Jelena, on your second Roland Garros championship! The least you could do in return is cover Suliso's accommodations in Armenia.

Nope. I know Emma likes to hit hard on second serve returns, but her own issues are worse. And she is not as natural on clay as Iga.
Again. If Emma beats her, I will be delighted. But that is not a reasonable expectation.

it could happen, though.. Raducanu seems to be adapting to clay nowadays..
by ponchi101 Well, of course if could happen. And Iga's season has gone so crazy that is way more possible than in 2024.
I am just saying it is not likely. I like Kostyuk's odds way better.

by mick1303 I did not realize how rare was the feat that Musetti pulled out this year - reaching the semis of all 3 clay masters during a clay season...
Only 8 players done this since 1990. There was a gap since 1995 until 2007 when nobody was able to do this.
by mick1303 Amazingly neither Muster, nor Bruguera or Kuerten or Coria managed to do this. Neither did JCF, Moya and Costa. You'll be REALLY surprised when you'll look it up who was the player that done it in 1995.
by ponchi101 Obviously R/R/N must have done it.
But you are mentioning 1995 specifically. Sampras? He had a very good run on clay that year, and he won Rome.

Holy ooops

by ashkor87 Upset alert : Todoni has a good shot at upsetting Pegula today..40% maybe.. clay doesn't suit Pegula much and todoni is a good clay courter, has actually won a small clay tournament, if I remember

Dear Naomi.
It may actually BE Patrick. He keeps living of the fact that he coached Serena, while people never see that she never won a slam while being coached by him.
Nor has he ever coached a player that won a slam under his coaching.
So, maybe he is disappointing YOU.
Just a thought.

Good call. Pegula won but the second set was closer than what the score says. Todoni could be one of those players that gets better. Has the size and the power. Don't know what else she needs.
by Suliso All the top 8 reached R16 and only on of their next round opponents will be from outside top 20 (Baptiste). Who said rankings are not indicative?
by ponchi101 Yes. This time, the "field" has not been that productive.
We will still see if somebody can sneak in, but it looks like the winner will be a top 5 player.
by jazzyg Ponch,
Serena won 10 slams while being coached by Mourataglou and had the most consistent dominant stretch of her career under his watch.
by ashkor87 Alexandrova playing amazingly well, better than I expected..meanwhile Paolini, Anisimova, Andreeva are playing as well as expected, which is great. coco is surviving but that is all that can be said..Alexandrova will probably beat her unless she really dtrps up. Her forehands are still dropping short and her dfs continue ..not good.

ashkor87 ponchi101 wrote: ↑Tue May 27, 2025 2:24 pm

perhaps you should check your facts.
by ashkor87 Re Alexandrova: never been a great clay court player but this year she seems to have amped up her serve considerably.. her return was always excellent.. at this rate, she will really do well at Wimbledon.
by ashkor87 I dont think probabilities have changed much - it is still between Alcaraz and Sinner, isnt it? Both playing up to expectations..
The women, too, reasonably as expected. This has been a strangely orderly FO.But I guess the French Open is the usually the least chaotic of the majors,, Wimbledon is the most.. USO and AO are somewhat in between..

Stand corrected. He did coach Serena for several years and slams.
I'll rephrase: since then, nothing. Osaka should be aware of that, and not put all the blame on herself.
by ashkor87 Sabalenka vs Anisimova - 55-45, Anisimova has beaten her several times and clay suits her powerful, slow-footed style
Samsonova - Zheng - 10-90, cant really see Samsonova beating Zheng here
Paolini-Svitolina - Paolini should win this time, 60-40, Svitolina did not impress in her previous outing
Rybakina - Swiatek - 60-40, enough has been said but I think Rybakina is nearly back now.
Andreeva - Kasatkina 90-10, cant see How K can beat A.. Andreeva does everything better
Boisson - Pegula 5-95, would be a real shocker, Pegula cannot be beaten by a lesser player even on clay
Keys - Baptiste 90-10- cant see how Baptiste can beat Keys here.
Alexandrova-Gauff- 70-30, Alexandrova playing really well, Gauff not.. if Coco were playing close to her best, the probabilities would be reversed, but sadly, that is not the case.
by ponchi101 Hope you are right about Iga/Elena.
by ashkor87 Watching Svitolina-Paolini..high quality match, whoever wins
by ashkor87 Neither Paolini not Svitolina able to hold serve
by ashkor87 Paolini too passive on the big points...
by ashkor87 Swiatek not stable..something has changed in her body..slipping and stumbling
