by ti-amie One day I will learn how to do a screen cap. I was trying for awhile this afternoon but couldn't get the hang of it. Oh well. At least we have the proper information.

Screenshot 2022-05-23 204806.jpg
That should allow you to copy anything from your screen.
If you want to copy the full screen: you keyboard should have a PRINT SCREEN button. It is wrongly labeled in all machines because it does not print anything; it copies the entire screen.
Go to PAINT. Click PASTE and your screen should be there.

by ti-amie I use a MAC but I'm sure there's some way to do it that I'm just too dense to get.

by texasniteowl OK, so I know Shapovalov can't be counted on for much these days; and I know Rune has had some match wins recently; but I did not expect Shapo to lose the first 2 sets 3 and 1.

... And Denis is gone in straight sets.
The best he could do was a tiebreak in the 3rd set.

It's raining again. Not the Supertramp song, but the weather conditions in Paris.

by Suliso Holger Rune (19( is a serious top 10 prospect in 1-2 years. Nevertheless it must have been a poor performance by Shapovalov.

by ponchi101 Shapo should be establishing himself by now, and he is doing anything but. All your comments (from several people) are correct.
No shame in losing to Rune, who is getting better and better, but on the other hand, he should have not. He was the higher ranked, more experiences youth there.
I looked at that match and considered it for the SP and then I said "nah, Rune is good enough". But not good enough for 3, 1 & 6, in straights.

EDIT: They just showed Rune's match point. Zero celebration, at all. Just a pumped fist, knowing he won but at the same time has won nothing. I am starting to like this kid.

You're right that there's no shame in losing to Rune, but it should have been more competitive. We shouldn't have so easily predicted Shapo losing this match. He could be in a better place in his career by now, and most expected he would be, but he's just not. I hope he keeps plugging away. I still think he has a great game and the pieces to have better results than this.

Who's coaching him now? Feels like he needs the right coach.

Remember the Australian Open match vs. Zverev? He was on fire. Then he took Rafa the distance. Wish that Denis showed up more.

For some time now, I have felt he needs the right spanking.

by ponchi101 Tsonga might lose today. But for his fans, what a farewell. He is playing tough.

by jazzyg Clay will always be Shapovalov's worst surface. He can play on anything, but it blunts his power and makes him play too many shots.

The comments here are right, but I don't think he would have beaten Rune even if he had been in top form. If he does not back up his strong Wimbledon from last year--and it will not be easy to do--I will be more concerned.

by ponchi101 Tsonga with an injury. This would be one of the saddest things that could happen. On perhaps your final match of your career, getting injured to the point of retirement.
His shoulder is the problem.

by ponchi101 Yes. He can't play. But he will not retire. Will play it out.
Very sad.
Next player that retires from a match after the slightest twitch, Tsonga gets to come to his house and slap him. This should be an example to many.

by dryrunguy That was precisely the OPPOSITE of how I had hoped Jo's final match would end. Anything but THAT. :(

It would have to be a left-handed slap, though.

by martini4me What a sad end. Tsonga had just broken, then he came out to serve for the fourth set and suddenly couldn't serve or hit a forehand. He hit one underhand serve in that game, then a left-handed (sort-of) overhead in the tiebreak.

Shapovalov just let coach Jamie Delgado go (after only a month or two), and Canadian Peter Polansky (who's still an active player, I believe) is now his coach.

by ponchi101 Quite a show RG put on. Well deserved and well produced.

by Suliso Poor Tsonga... A good career he had albeit in the early days I expected an even better one.

by ponchi101 He is one of the guys that I would say would have had two or three slams if he had not been born right in the center of that Great Three era. I thought after that Aussie Open final that indeed he would reach more.
But that was a good career. He will have a lot of opportunities. I gather DC captain is for sure.

Command-Shift-3 for the whole screen, or Command-Shift-4 to make a selection - it will give you a little cursor that you can use to select part of the screen. Either of those should result in a jpg opening in Preview. :)

Counterpoint - it's not like he has to worry about possibly doing any damage that will prevent him from playing coming up, which is definitely a large reason... some... retire from match.

by ti-amie Uh Ms Schunk is up 5-0 on Halep in the second set after Halep fought her to win the first 6-4.

Tennenbaum-ish

by Suliso I've never heard of Schunk before, but I see she's only 18 years old so possibly underranked. Still no reason for Halep to lose to her on her favorite surface.

by Liamvalid Was at the Tsonga match today, what a great atmosphere it was. Don’t know if they showed it on TV but after the match they had a big presentation on court. Some of his family, French team mates, and other people from his career came out to give him an award. They also had videos of his career highlights on the big screens, a clip of each of the Big 4 commending his work ethic and charisma, and then Tsonga himself gave a lengthy speech. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house (including mine). I’ve never experienced that at a live match before but I’m so glad I was there to see it.

And what a classy speech from Ruud too btw

I use FireShot FWIW. It's a Chrome add-on. Can capture the full page, the visible screen, or choose what I want. If you don't use Chrome, look at the add-ons for your browser, might be a a very easy way to go about other than just the native option for Mac and Windows.

Musetti is another player that has joined the ranks of receiving serve from an extremely far position.

My first question would be to Yonex and it would be "Why?"

by ti-amie Halep barely won the first set, went on walkabout during the second and ran away with the third.

Skrunk's facial expression went from "Simona who?" to "What am I doing here playing Simona Halep?"

Paquet took the first set from Sabalenka 6-2. Sabalenka is up 5-2 in the second.

I wonder if the under layer is for compression or warmth.

by meganfernandez Qualifier Fernanda Contreras beat Udvardy in straights. It was a little shaky at the end - she needed 5 match points across 2 or 3 games. She led some fans in chanting "Mexico!" afterward. She grew up in Austin, Texas - her dad teaches tennis at a college-prep tennis academy there. She plays for Mexico. This is her first Grand Slam, and she has only played a couple tour events, Acapulco and Monterrey. She graduated from Vanderbilt. Has a one-handed backhand.

Great story, but I don't expect her to go very far, though. Kasatkina next.

by ponchi101 It will be fitting that the winner of the mine field that is the top half, will have to play Lorenzo Musetti in the final.
He is believing he can win.

Seen enough players wearing long sleeves, not to mention many in the crowd, to make me think it is not a warm day even if the temp isn't that low. I just wonder why Yonex would do this instead of a long sleeved shirt, a pullover, a quarter-zip pullover, or really almost anything else that fits more naturally with the rest of his kit.

by Irena2 Musetti is very impressive! I watched him play against Diego Schwartzmann at Barcelona, was impressed with him there. Was he expected to do this well against Tsitsipas?

That's great. And really doesn't matter if she won't go far, it's a big win for Mexican tennis even if this is it. They've had players with very nice looking games in those Mexico tournaments, but I think they lack funding since we see them so little elsewhere. I'd imagine 2nd round prize money could prove to e a game changer for her. Hopefully we'll keep hearing her name.

Yeah, the prize money should help. Her coach is Christo van Rensberg. He's not courtside (just her sister and a friend or two, apparently), so I don't know if he is traveling with her or not. This might attract a sponsor, too. Yeah, she has already had a great result.

Edit: Maybe van Rensberg was there. She hugged an older man who could well have been van Rensberg, based on Google photos of him now. Oddly he never played the French Open in singles. He played it in doubles. Played all the other Slams, so he would have been ranked high enough.

Yes and no. Musetti was a top prospect coming out of juniors. He made a splash in Rome 2020 and then backed it up pretty well in the beginning of 2021. But he had a very embarrassing loss to Djokovic at last year's RG after being up in the match, and almost went into hiding for a bit afterwards and he's rarely been the same player since then, losing inexplicably, just lacking all confidence on court. He's been showing signs lately of starting to get it back though. The thinking was that he would be a future top 10 player and potentially a GS champion. The Italians are very high on him. So, Tsitsipas was expected to win this match for sure, but given the talent Musetti possesses, it also wouldn't be a shocking upset. It's the night match for a reason, they expected it to be competitive and the potentially the biggest stumbling block for Tsitsipas reaching the Final.

Jinx!

by Deuce I've said for a while now that Musetti has the physical talent to definitely be a top 5 player... but his head is weak. I think it's a confidence issue with him... though it could be a commitment issue.

He has shown his physical talent thus far vs. Tsitsipas. Will he hold steady... or will he fold? I don't think even he knows...

by ponchi101 I can't recall any player ever that has played two consecutive matches at any grand slam and has lost both after leading two sets to none.
And I wonder what that can do to a player's psyche. But Musetti's competitive drive is already a bit suspect. No need to add that label.

by JazzNU Well, it'll be interesting to see how he bounces back from this. He finished the match and also didn't wilt at the end when he could've just given up and let it be over as a 6-1 set, so there's that. There was competitive fight here that just flatly wasn't there last year.

If he struggles again, I do hope someone in his camp talks to him not just about putting in the time to improve his fitness to get better at these endurance matches, but gets him to talk to a sports psychologist.

Do you mean he lost in Australia after leading 2 sets to love and did the same thing here?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

by ponchi101 No. He lost at RG to Novak last year, in the infamous 4-0 fifth set match (in which he walked out because he would later admit "he was not going to win").
I should have said two consecutive SAME slams.

by JazzNU Officiating during Carreno Busta vs. Simon was interesting in the final sets. Because it was deemed the farewell match, it felt like there were some liberties given especially because it seemed like Simon was going to lose despite winning the first two sets. He was given more time to catch his breath between points, serve clock was not rushed, etc. The crowd was giving him life but were fairly rowdy and they were not reigned in in any significant way so as not to disrupt Carreno Busta. For the farewell match, it makes sense, but Simon won. And it's not the only reason he won, but the extra time helped him for sure at various points to regroup a bit more, he was struggling physically out there, not in an injured way, but a "this is a long 5-set match and I'm 37 way."

My first question would be to Yonex and it would be "Why?"
My first reaction is 'Please don't tell me that there are holes in the back of the shirt, too...'.

by Deuce Regarding Musetti...
When others have more belief in you than you have in yourself, there is a major problem.
And it's an even bigger problem when the people who have believed in you are beginning to seriously question that belief.

The talent is unquestionably there. But the belief and confidence clearly is not.
If he continues along his current trajectory, he will become this generation's Hicham Arazi - enormous unfulfilled, 'wasted' talent.

by jazzyg Arazi was 5-9. An underchiever, yes, but there are limits to anyone's game at that height.

by Deuce Arazi had more natural physical ability to hit a tennis ball than any of his contemporaries, and his underachieving had nothing to do with his height.
It was the flaws in his psychological approach and outlook that did him in.

Many-a player has been told that their height - or lack of it - would render them incapable of reaching the top levels in tennis, and proved that theory wrong... Barty, Halep, Schwartzman, Chang, Ferrer, Grosjean, Coetzer...

All of the above achieved a higher ranking than Arazi, and with considerably less natural ability.
Arazi never made it into the top 20.
