But the events are still full. So, why should any sports organization drop prices if the fans keep coming no matter how expensive it is?
I would love to go to a slam again. But not at those prices.
And it is not just sports. When I hear that people are paying $500 for a Taylor Swift ticket, all I can think is that the sense of proportion has been lost.
Final example: a day ticket for any top notch ski area in Colorado is around $300. The math for a family of 4 is easy. And yet, the resorts are full. I just don't get it.

I was just thinking that as well, but I wonder how it will pan out with the US Open because tourism to the US is so much down. The tickets sell out to scalpers, so let's see how the resale goes. I changed my mind on those super expensive tickets actually and am trying to sell them. Because of the ticketmaster fees, I have to increase the price a lot just to recoup my own cost, let's see if they sell.
My problem is not so much with the events wanted to make money but with Ticketmaster - they make money off of every person in the transaction - the more resales there are, the more money they make, so they encourage the scalping (ticket limits are way too high at 24 tickets a day for the USO, I believe - 8 groundspasses+8 day+8 night)
P.S. 500 for a Taylor Swift ticket through resale is a steal (the official ones were about $300 in the US but people were paying thousands...)
P.P.S. I went to Madrid Open this year and paid 60 Euro for the second row.

Dynamic pricing is a terrible thing, and don't get me started about Ticketmaster. I've read that dynamic pricing is supposed to seperate the people who really need something from those that just want something so as to balance supply and demand, but what wasn't addressed was where that leaves those people who want but can't afford. Especially when dealing with things such as concerts or events where the product does not use up physical resources like, say, a car or a loaf of bread. Nevermind those that need what is priced out of their grasp. All I see is greed, and in such a way that could and possibly should work against someone at some point. Which could well be wishful thinking on my part as long as people continue to pay dynamic prices. I just refuse to take part and buy either directly or offline as much as I can. Like with the Davis Cup match the Netherlands will play in September. I'll be paying 180 Euro's for a day 1 VIP ticket that includes all drinks and dinner. Straight from the Dutch tennis federation.

I've been to three Slams in person, but have lost desire to travel to any again. Partially because of prices and partially because my lady has no interest.
We're currently vacationing in Armenia. A much better value for money than a 1000 euro weekend trip to RG.

I am going to Wimbledon this year for the first time (and first time leaving North America to go anywhere). I have never paid more than $90 for a ticket to any sporting event, but I forked over more than $2,000 for three tickets to court 1 on July 4. It will be a one off because I agree ticket prices have become outrageous.

We got $129 nosebleeds on the second Wednesday, which seemed decent, and we can probably sit courtside at Louis for dubs.

The pre-sale was brutal (not just the prices but the virtual lines) and the general sale was worse, because they used dynamic pricing and those $120 nosebleeds were priced a lot higher for the general public. I had to get additional tickets for the Labor Day weekend for what I was able to get on the pre-sale and they were $60 more per ticket for the nosebleeds in the general sale.
It's becoming untenable. Factoring in food on site, I'm spending almost as much on 4 days at the US Open as I am on a whole 2-week transatlantic trip the week after it. Can't imagine how it would be for people who also have to pay for flights and a New York hotel for a family.
Time to go to Cincinnati!

For day session, right? Those were 2-for-1 at $42 the last two years, were already sold out by the time I got through the queue this year (I joined the queue when the waiting room opened at 8:45 am)
