what makes a great champion? one of the characteristics is the ability to squeeze something extra, find another gear, when they have to.. which you have to do sooner or later because the other players, especially your great rivals, will play as well as you do, too. Alcaraz has it - in the past, Sampras, Djokovic, Nadal, Connors, Laver had it - on the whole, Sinner, Agassi, Lendl, dont/didnt.. players like McEnroe lost matches they should have won (the French Open to Lendl for instance), Stan Smith (lost the Wimbledon final to Newcombe when he was clearly leading), Federer has lost to Djokovic Wimbledon and USO finals he should have won..
players like Alcaraz have to have the stake driven through their heart to put them down! that is the heart of a champion....

among women today, Swiatek clearly has it though it was Pegula who showed it yesterday, , so does Coco to some extent - Sabalenka, Rybakina dont.. often falter when they have to have put their foot down on the accelerator. .Bencic doesnt have it, which is why she hasnt won any big ones. Serena had it in dollops, Sharapova had it.. Kerber too. ..if you let Serena get close, you knew it was over.

Plus Agassi and Mac?
So, because you lost ONE match when you were ahead (Mac RG84, Roger W 2019) you don't have what it takes?
Tough crowd.

Yes, I do think all these great players showed some mental weakness when it muttered...Players like Nadal and Djokovic didn't

Clearly the USO is pushing for this weird mixed doubles tournament..not that the players want to play . It is just an exho. I am certainly not going to watch.

Nadal 2012 Aussie open final Vs Novak. With a wide open court, he missed one backhand down the line to keep the lead in the fifth. He ended losing the match.
Djokovic has a career Slam-retirement. He has retired from 6 matches at slams.
