Mardy Fish throws major shade at Rajeev Ram over US Open doubles suggestion
August 19, 2025 09:40 AM
by Dzevad Mesic
Mardy Fish threw brutal shade on Rajeev Ram, pretty much declaring him "not an actual tennis player" after a tennis journalist suggested that the former doubles world No. 1 should replace Jannik Sinner if the Italian withdraws from the US Open mixed doubles.
(...)
"No way is Jannik Sinner pulling out of @CincyTennis today and then playing a mixed doubles event tomorrow.... We renew our appeal to give Rajeev Ram a @usopen a mixed wild card!" Jon Wertheim of Sports Illustrated wrote on X.
Fish, a former top-10 player, noticed the post and reacted by saying: "How bout another actual tennis player."
(Wertheim's comments were made on Xitter)

The article claims he has an IQ of 158. That is borderline top 0.1%.
Not 1%. 0.1%. That is impressive.
Not 1%. 0.1%. That is impressive.

If we go by that logic, studying any species on the planet makes us dumb.
Voyager 1 and 2 are by now beyond the heliopause. If I were an alien, I would really like to know about who sent them there.

Just to clarify, Nadal said, "For me, equality isn't about giving away gifts, but if Serena Williams earns more than me, I want her to earn more than me. I want equality, I want women to earn more than men if they generate more than men..."
He has also stated that "it's a comparison we shouldn't even make" when discussing equal pay, suggesting that the focus should be on revenue generation rather than gender. He has used the example of female models earning more than male models as a comparison point.

In case you're wondering where all the rain along the East Coast of the US is coming from:
Enormous Erin Growing Larger: Violent Seas, Dangerous Waves, and Treacherous Surf Expected Along the U.S. East Coast
Tropical storm conditions and coastal flooding will begin affecting North Carolina’s Outer Banks by this evening
Michael Lowry

Hurricane Erin’s reach through the western Atlantic continues to grow and intensify, with pressures quickly falling into the low 940s while churning about 475 miles east-southeast of northeast Florida.
Though the impressive pressure falls have been slow to translate into an increase in peak winds, Erin is harnessing the extra energy to become a freakishly large hurricane, with a gargantuan reach of Category 2-plus winds stretching an incredible 100 miles from its center.
Erin’s powerful and exceptionally wide wind field will mean an historic hurricane event for the western Atlantic, with individual waves topping 100 feet offshore over the next few days. Yesterday a buoy about 100 miles east of Erin’s track northeast of the Bahamas recorded wave heights reaching 40 feet.
Although Erin is forecast to pass about 250 miles east of North Carolina at its closest point of approach to the U.S. on Thursday, its violent seas and long-period swell will fuel major coastal hazards up and down the U.S. Eastern Seaboard.

Life-threatening surf and rip currents are expected from Miami to Massachusetts and already dozens of swimmers have been rescued from rip currents this week, including more than 70 water rescues in the Wilmington area alone on Monday.

Re: Tennis Random, Random (On Court)
Revisiting the Tier theory..
recap - the proposition is that players in Tier 1 are major champions or potential major champions, they cannot normally be beaten by someone in a lower tier.
Men:
Tier 1 - Alcaraz, Sinner
Djokovic is sliding out of it
Tier 2 - Zverev, Shelton, Fritz, DeMinaur
Women:
Tier 1 - Swiatek, Sabalenka, Rybakina, Gauff
Andreeva, Tauson are on the cusp, knocking at the door, may break it down soon
Tier 2 - Paolini, Krejcikova, Pegula, Svitolina, Bencic, Anisimova, Alexandrova, Samsonova, Shnaider, Mertens
what that means is (according to me) Pegula, Anisimova et al are not going to win a major but they will do well, not crash out early, they will be beaten only by someone in Tier 1. Same for Shelton, Zverev et al
I dont think many people would disagree with this..?

Re: Tennis Random, Random (On Court)
It is not a secret that tournaments have a power to affect the outcome of certain matches by scheduling. The most known example is Roddick's 2003 title. Did Cincinnati owner Bob Navarro wanted Alcaraz more than Sinner? Possibly. It is not a rocket science to figure out that the guy from Murcia has better tolerance for heat than the one from Alps.
What was his reasoning? Maybe perceived popularity or marketability of Alcaraz. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that Sinner was scheduled to play Emma Navarro in US mixed doubled, but then she was replaced by Siniakova. IDK what was the sequence of events in this case. Maybe it was the other way around. In any case I think it is wrong that tournaments play this game. It was wrong in Roddick's case and no less wrong now.
Alcaraz could've won anyway even the evening match, who knows. But sure it would've been more competitive.

I don't understand, are you talking about when they scheduled the final?mick1303 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 21, 2025 5:34 am It is not a secret that tournaments have a power to affect the outcome of certain matches by scheduling.
